Finally replaced our ancient Baja Sunsport184 (don't laugh...it was a fun boat and served us well) to a .22 Caliber w/ 5.7 Mag.
Pick up the boat Tuesday (quite a lot of haggling on this one-deal included throwing in Metallica tickets for the seller :rolleyes ).
Now that it's too late, did I buy a good boat?
Doesn't seem to be that many of them around, searches of the site for info were nil. I know it's not the killer off shore boat I want to own, but I don't plan on entering very many races with it 0] .
Fill me in on what I bought....

Bomar76:

Boats are a highly personal thing. More so than even automobiles. I'd feel I was intruding on somebody's personal space to say "You bought a dog of a boat!".

Now that isn't the same thing as providing information and opinions to somebody who comes on the board asking for objective information - like recent posts from someone who had transom rot. Or answering questions like: "Which boat is faster?"; "Did I get a good price?"; "How does this boat handle in the roght compared to a Stingray?"

We all like our Baja boats, so I don't think anybody would take issue to your choice there! And a 22 footer with a 5.7 should prove to be a solid boat and a good step-up from an 18 footer.

Oh, I don't plan on entering any races either!

Took the new (to me) Baja out to Alum Creek (OH) today for our first ride in it.
Minor problems- (leaking trim tab @ hose to cyl and dysfunctional speedo-forgot the GPS) but WHAT A GREAT BOAT!

WTF was I thinking for not movin on up a long time ago?
It rides like a dream (rode on some brand x's that beat the Hell outta you) corners like a Ferrari, thrilled with my choice.

WOT throttle trimmed out on light - medium chop w/a full tank and 4 adults was 4400....still have 200 revs left ya think?

Congratulations! Good choice. I'm certain there's a significant difference in ride and handling. I remember feeling the same when I moved up. I, too, wish I'd done it a lot sooner.

Anyway, is your motor a "5.7L" or the "350 MAG."
There's a big difference in the Max WOT RPM ranges.
The 5.7L tops out at 4400-4800rpms and the 350 MAG is good through 5000RPM's, if memory serves me correctly(It changes with year, so I'm not 100%)

My mistake on the engine designation....
It says "5.7 L Alpha 1 Thunderbolt Ignition" so I was off base with the Mag designation.
Inadvertant error on my part.
It's a 1994, first titled in 1995.
The hull/engine have 172 hours on the clock.

As for the Metallica tickets, that was a hoot.
We were $4 k apart on the deal when I found out the sellers' new wife (who was forcing sale) was a Metallica nut.
I stood ground on my cash offer, and offered to throw in 2 Metallica tickets for the Ohio Stadium show this weekend and 2 free nights in the Marriott hotel. These nights are totally free to me - I travel on business extensively and these were freebe nights Marriott sent to me - didn't even have to use my rewards points.
She jumped at that offer.:lol
He nodded his head.:rolleyes
The tickets (club section, row 8, seats 5&6 ) only cost me $200. (TicketMaster - wasn't a sold out show)
I got the whole outfit (pretty well equipped), trailer, covers and all for a total of $10,500. (with tickets)
Now tell me the beating I took $ wise....:smokin

Great way to swing the deal! Sounds like you got the better part of the whole thing.

Anyway, I would suggest you try a smaller prop and see how that does for you. You definately have room to increase speeds. 4400 is too low.

I thought I came out on top too....it's nice to win every now and then.
I have a lab finished prop laying around (bought it a couple years ago for next to nothing) the same size that I will try out this weekend.
Fixed the leak in the trim tab, unclogged the speedo hole, and I am good to go!
Glad to be here and thanks for the encouragement....;)

Nice move. I did a similar jump going from a 95 Hotshot to a 97 Hammer.
