View Full Version : Feeling disappointed.....

This past Saturday, I had a friend out for the day on my 25-Outlaw. We also tooled around with another friend who owns a 30' Superboat. Anyway, after spending all day with me, he took a ride back to the marina in the Superboat. Well, he could not stop talking how superior the ride was to my 25. Far smoother, much less bumps, and overall, much smoother. Is this just a factor of size? The superboat is 30' (maybe 32'), with a 7' beam.

I have never driven in a speed boat larger than mine, so I cannot compare. I assume Baja has much more technology than a smaller boat builder, so the reason cannot stem from this.

It is a freaking bigger boat. If he took a ride on a 40 Outlaw he would be saying the same thing about the 30 Superboat that he thought so much of!

HG,
I wouldnt feel dissapointed in the least, If he was doing that much talking about his boat, after a ride in your boat, I am inclined to say there is a bit of jealousy of your 25 Outlaw. And CK is right, hes got 5 or 7 more feet, of course its going to ride smoother.

I agree.

I have an 18 ft. Century and a 21 ft. Hammer. The Hammer rides like a dream compared to the Century. I'm sure you 25 owners will attest that the Hammer is not the smoothest ride out there!0]

Jim,
But the Hammer is one of the fastest, coolest, squireliest rides out there.:eek

You can't compare the two! They're not even close.

It's a bigger boat and is narrower. Both will contribute tremendously to ride and handling.

Tell him to compare a 29 outlaw to a 30 superboat.
The 29 will feel like a Cadillac, comparatively.

Superboats, though fairly well respected, emply some old technology. They still use plywood structurally...a big no, no.

Every boat will ride different! It all depends on the LOA, Beam, and Driver!
Besides, your buddy is riding in another boat not driving! Does he own a boat or does he wish to be a Baja Memeber!

HJGC,
As the former owner of a 22 Pachanga, I can attest that the 25 OL is a Lincoln to the Pachanga and I thought at the time the Pachanga was a great ride.

If I compare my Dad's old 25' Checkmate Convincer to my Outlaw, it's still night and day, because the Outlaw has more mass.
Don't be discouraged! For God's sake, if you rode in a 33 Outlaw on rough waters, you would wonder why you have a 25. Mass, beam, LOA and deadrise angle.

Economics my friend ... we have what we have for a reason ... until our economics change. We have the best of what our money will buy us. SMILE <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" />

The day will come when I upgrade to a bigger boat. I will test drive the 30-Outlaw, and then the 30-Superboat. Can't wait to post my impressions. ;)

Sounds like next time your friend wants to go boating he needs to call the guy with the Superboat. I have a 29" Outlaw I would match up against any other 30" boat out there. Sounds like your friend should just be happy to be on the water!

I think that the larger and heavier the boat, the smoother the ride. I have a 20 ft Islander and it is a rougher ride than my friends 25 ft Mariah. I think the hull design and weight has a lot to do with the ride. My boat doesn't have as deep of a V hull as his.
