After I heard how much they were I am making some. THe top of the cuddy is carpeted, so I am going to sew velcro to window screen and stick them up. Just a thought. I bought white velcro and grey screen so they will blend in a bit. I may have to put the soft side of the velcro on the boat if the hook side messes up the carpet though. I have not figured out how to do that but I will cross that bridge when i get there.
Just an alternative idea in case you get sticker shock.

DO THE vents have a removable frame or are they molded fiberglass?

I think you are talking about the engine vents here. I am looking for hatch screens for the cabin.

Carol, I am thinking the same thing right now... I am probably heading to the hardware store tonight to pick up some screen...
(I would still be interested in buying some used ones or something though, if anyone has any...)

i was talking about the cabin hatch screens, my canvas guy made me a set that go on around the hatch frames and have a zipper to access the locks, for the same reason,i wasnt paying 500$$ for baja ones on my 38

I like the zipper idea (any pics?). The ones I have that came on my OL are a joke. Have to take them off just to open the hatch. That's highway robbery if they're asking for that kind of $$$. Just my :2cents:

Sorry Ed, I misunderstood... I really like the zipper idea and can't wait to see some pics. I picked up some screen last night and I am going to try rigging something up this weekend when I get to the slip. I will let you know how I make out...

I am not sure to tell you the truth... I will have to scope everything out when I get up to the lake friday night.

Previous owners of my boat did the same for both the hatch and the opening to the cockpit. Not sure where the screen came from, it's fairly fine and flexible so I can fold them and stow them easily. They work great! Simple, inexpensive to make, I would imagine. I like to sleep on the boat. I can't imagine doing it without the screens. The velcro does pull at the carpet a little bit. Makes it look a little pulled at those edges, but once I realized why it looked that way, and that it doesn't seem to be getting worse, it didn't bother me.

I agree - do not get them from Baja! They are overpriced. One-armed blind midgets could make better ones (no offense to one-armed blind midgets, of course). Come up with a good design and you could make some decent $ selling them on TBM!

im very happy with the ones i had made and im sure the guy would do more ,but this style needs to have a plastic frame on the inside that can be removed .
