It's just about time, 70 this weekend at LOTO.
So who all boats at LOTO and what do you have?

This will be our first year at the lake and are looking forward to meeting people and having a great summer.

We have a condo at the 20 1/2 mile marker right next to shooters (Heron Bay). Went down there last Saturday, beautiful day, kind of windy though. Thought about dropping the boat in the water but I didn't have the guts. Probably will be looking around the 20th or 30th of March to take the boat out. I have a 29 Outlaw. Let me know when you go down there, my wife and I are always looking for people to hang out with. I think old man winter still has a surprise for us before he goes away for the summer. ;) Eric

No problem - wishing the best of health to your future new born and wife. I saw photos of your boat at the factory on this web site, its beautiful. I'll bet your anxious to get it in the water. Did you order it through Big Thunder? I'm hoping for a 33 Outlaw in a couple of years, I need a bigger slip first, they are great boats. What are you going to name them? How about "First Born" for your boat and "LOTO" for your new born. "LOTO" will work for a boy or a girl. Kind of like the name "Alex", it works for both a girl and boy.;)

March 12th, 2003, 03:57 AM
Lets see, She will be the second but second born is not bad.
Alexa is the first one, nice shot on that one. Yes we got it from Big Thunder and we are very anxious. We don't have a name for ether yet. I hear the slip thing and the lift thing. Sucks after the boat you still need 12-15 for all the other crap.

Nancy and I boat at the LOTO. We stay at Big Thunder Marina. 3rd dock far side second from the shore. We started Boating here in the late 70's. also boated LOTO as a Kid with my Parents.

We like staying on the boat. This is our first season sence 1998. We are going down tomorow, and start setting up the dock.
We can't wait. it has been a long time. Nancy Named the boat "Bottomless Pit" :o So I used it here for the username.

Are you going to move to the new Big Thunder marina?

Anyone know where it is or when it opens?

Also, Blake with only 3 people on TBM I think we are going to need LOTS of cards sent to Missouri.:D

Lou told us that they have a new marina at the Grand Glaze Bridge, It opens the first week of April I think.
We looked but never saw it. I don't know who the old owners were.
Also was told today of a fire at the one on the Hwy. on Tuesday. No one works on Tuesday and no boats were damaged.

There is a large group of boaters at OSO who boat at LOTO, I don't remember the names....look at the pictures of LOTO.
I think the Big Thunder crowd is there, but not sure how many Baja's with them.....E is right though, as many Baja's as there are at LOTO there are suprisingly few here.....I will look for the picture I took with my old digital camera....it shows boats leaving the party cove about 6-8 abreast and non stop..the photo is all Baja's but very poor quality......some are behind others but there were 24 together and nothing smaller than a 25' outlaw.....

When I realized this, I couldn't get a zoom lens on the 35 fast enough and missed it....and it wasn't planned it just happened....I dropped a friend off at a resort and talked to two of the boats that happened to be there.

"new marina at the Grand Glaze Bridge"

It must be in the cove to the left as you go under the Grand Gl. Bridge....before topsiders and Robin Nest...perfect location in the no wake zone and thats the only place I can think of there...where the four winn dealer used to be...

thanks MO.,

Any idea how to get to it by land?

Big E
March 16th, 2003, 01:25 AM
bajacraig - I would think you would use the same road as the road you use to get to Dave Mungenast marina. Right before Panera Bread Co. if its where MO says it is. That is the last main road prior to the bridge. This is news to me hearing that Big Thunder has a marina down by the Glaize, that will be convienient, a lot closer than driving up by the Horny Toad.:D

We looked on the west side by car with no luck, where you said sounds good. She said something about a post office. Is one around the same place?

missouri
March 16th, 2003, 03:28 AM
I meant to say after Topsiders and before Robins, coming from the main channel, if thats it there used to be a road right across from topsiders entrance...but I haven't paid any attention for a long time...

March 17th, 2003, 04:24 AM
To get to the new Big Thunder Marina by car you take hwy 54 South about a mile before you get to grandglaize bridge you take left across from Shoney's, don't remember the name of the road but they have a big sign that you cannot miss just follow the road and you will see the Big Thunder sign on the left side. My husband and I bought a 2002 outlaw25 at Big Thunder, hope to meet you all at the LOTO this summer.

MXBaja421 - I was going to go down this weekend and pull the levers on the hoist, but looking at the weather channel it looks as though the low on Saturday will be 26 and the high in the mid 40's, cloudy with possible showers. I guess I will wait until the 1st of April.

I see you posted a 29 Outlaw with a single 502mag. I thought I was one of the 2 Outcasts on this board with a 29 and a single (me and JCBoat), I guess there are three of us now! I have a 1999 with a 502mag also. I like your name, thats what I think too.:D

I took it to mid-west propeller-(913-782-0213) in olathe ks.
It was about $125.00. to have it repitched.
Before i was running about 61mph. after installing gill exhaust,
i had to that myself, because big thunder would not install the
gill because of the noise level.
I'am hoping to get close to 63mph.
Here in a few weeks maybe get hooked up at captains galley
for some rum runners.

Chad - Sounds good to me, you are going to have to tell me where captains galley is, I don't get down to that part of the lake very much at all. But I fully intend to this summer. 61 sounds pretty fast, I have yet to burry mine to find out what it can do. I had it up to 54 on GPS and still had about 3/4 throttle left, but you don't get much more between 3/4 and full throttle thinking how my old 252 Islander was.

Pit,

thanks for the info. I think we are going to make a run down on Wed.

As far as the gas thing, I've been told that, my parents just got a 36' Cobalt late last year with the HOs but I hope I get better mileage than that FAT PIG:D

Eric,
It's on the 31mm on the left hand side. can't miss it.
Has far has the 61mph. that's on the speedo, If i see it
on gps i'll guess about 56mph.
Once you get passed the 50mm. in good water you can hammer it.
I know when we go up for the shooters shootout, we only
run about 35 to 40mph.

Chad - 31 mile marker is not too far from me, 10-15 minutes I'm guessing by boat, the wife and I will have to go up there this spring. I am going down this Saturday to put my batteries in charged up and get the cob webs wiped off. A week from this Friday I am taking off of work and going down Thursday, if weather permits I will definately be turning the levers to the lower position on my hoist. I can't wait. I almost went down to drop her in last Saturday, but I am glad I didn't, they are calling for lows in the 19's this Saturday, I'm not so sure one night of freezing temps would do any damage for a unwinterized boat, (the weather people are always wrong about the weather anyway, so I take thier forcasts with a grain of salt) but I'm glad I don't have to worry about it. I'm ready for a Bud Light or maybe even a rum runner at Captains Galley though, I like trying new places that we have not been to.:D

I'm in Missouri but in the St. Louis area. I haven't been to LOTO in about 6 years and then it was in a 21' Wellcraft (might as well been in a canoe) :x I spent most of last summer in the Alton Pool of the Mississippi River and some weekends in the Missouri River. Did take a couple trips up to Mark Twain Lake though.

Any of you guys/gals live near St. Louis and drive to LOTO on weekends? I noticed Oki lives near. Guess I'll have to start doing it too but right now I'm trailering my Outlaw as I don't have a slip.

Sounds like I'm missing out on some fun at LOTO. :smokin

Big E
March 26th, 2003, 08:10 PM
Skimoriver - I'm from St. Louis also and during the summer months the wife and I drive down there just about every weekend. There are places like Berger's Marina next to the dam where you can leave your boat in covered storage on the trailer and when you get down there they will put your boat in the water. This is what we used to do, then we ended up buying a condo with a slip. There are a lot more places than just Berger's, but I mentioned them because I don't think you will find a cheaper place down there. They are at the 1 mile marker and they charge about $50 to $60 a month to keep your boat under one of their sheds. You can even call a day ahead of time and tell them when you will be down and when you drive up your boat will be sitting in the water with the cover on. They are great mechanics also. I still let Bergers work on my boat even though I no longer store my boat there, they are 20 miles by water from me, there are a lot of places closer, but I have yet to find one that does the work Bergers does. Its nice to see other people from St. Louis on here. Eric:D

skimoriver
March 27th, 2003, 12:48 AM
Eric, Bergers sounds like an ideal place for me, assuming I can talk my wife into going down there every weekend. :rolleyes I was paying $60/month near the river and it was even outside storage and I had to use my vehicle to put it in the water, but they did have a nice ramp there I could use for "free" anytime.
I would love to head to the Lake on many weekends. I don't think I would want to trailer it there all of the time so I'll keep something like Bergers in mind. Many thanks.

Big E
March 27th, 2003, 02:29 AM
Joe - talk your wife into going down there? I can't figure that one out. My wife gets mad at me if I have to work late on Fridays in the summer. She wants to leave early every Friday to get down there. She gets mad at me when I have to work on Saturdays in the summer. I think once your wife goes down there a couple of times and you get comfortable, she will want to go down all of the time.:D

I think you can do that in the state park. It has a nice boat ramp and it next to P-Cove.

April 9th, 2003, 04:08 AM
Campgrounds:

You want to stay around the Hwy. 54 area between 42 (18 mile marker - 31mm) and Y, just search campgrounds and check maps....if you want peace and quiet go down around the Niangua branch(31 mm)......party cove is on the Glaize Arm(19mm), there's a couple of public ramps there and it gets quiet below the party cove entrance.....if you want to be there on a holiday make a reservation now, probly too late already.

www.mostateparks.com/lakeozark/map.htm (http://www.mostateparks.com/lakeozark/map.htm) ...Lake Ozark state park, quiet water, 3 miles to party cove (a must see)....very nice area for camping. If you look at the map, the directions from St. Louis are Hwy 44 to 68/63 to 42...this is the fastest way but the last 75 miles are twisting narrow 2 lane highways(especially 42, 63 ain't to bad), not fun if you have a big camper. Hwy 70 to 54 to 42 is best for big rigs. Pobly the best campsite area on the lake.....

I recommend 13, better water and still close to the things you will want to see....8 and 11 are on the water also. www.odd.net/ozarks/camping/ (http://www.odd.net/ozarks/camping/)

This has without a doubt "The best summer of my life"...
We have made more friends this year than the past 20 years of boating put togather.
Sad note" 40 Outlaw Gary, lift fell apart, Bob gave him another lift, but it is on the 1st dock. It won't fit the narrower dock so I am by myself. Good news I can crank the Chiefs and Rock and Roll. Gary likes country and the RAMS :beathead

Well let’s see,
I thought the drive would get old with 2 kids but it’s not so bad. (2 hours door to door)

We like the Condo and we have a lot of nice people around with a lot of kids for Alexa to play with.

The boat is holding up well in the bigger water and looks to be a good decision.
(The amount of gas it uses is not what I anticipated.)

The Big Thunder Run and the ShootOut were great.

As for the people that I had hoped to meet, I couldn’t think meeting of nicer people than, yourself, Dennis, Don and Chad.
I would like to think of all of you as friends that we will have some great times with in the future.

Overall I think we made one of the best decisions of our lives, it truly is like a vacation every weekend.

Craig;
Thanks for the web site it has alot of places, almost too many to choose from and makes it confusing. I think we narrowed it down to lake ozark and osage beach for the ease of driving. Are these places really crowded (boat traffic) or is it nothing to be concerned about due to the size of the lake?

Whats the lake bottom like? sand, muck, rock or all three I cant information on some of my ?'s from that site or others so I thought I would just start asking. How difficult is water to navigate? I do have gps but that doesnt help for whats under the water. Any insight you or others might have would be most helpful and very much appreciated.

Thanks Eric & Connie

Some of the other guy's will be of more help.

The water will be 40'-100' deep at Osage Beach.
Have the BIGGEST water on LOTO, but will be the place you will want to stay. Osage Beach is where everything off the water is.
It will have LOT of boats and more BIG boats in this area then in all others.

You don't need GPS but is nice when going back up in some of the big arms for the first time.

missouri
December 23rd, 2003, 02:53 PM
Don't even worry about depth....you will seldom be in less than 30' of water, the lake is over 100' ft deep in places. The bottom is mud and rock closer to shore but everyone swims off of their boats since there are no beaches.

It's easy to find your way around the lake, you won't need GPS...there are mile markers and lots of landmarks(houses) to remember which way to go or where you've been....

I would say avoid Lake Ozark, older part of the lake...the strip is in that area and kids have the roads at a stand still at night cruising..hwy HH is in Lake Ozark but a nice area, in fact one of the nicest ...rough water from the dam (1mm) to Horshoe bend (7mm to 14 mm)....then it gets REALLY rough from there to Tantara Lodge (24mm), then it's just rough again to the Lynn Creek Niangua Arm junction (31mm)...

The Party Cove (a must see) is on the, is on the Glaize Arm (3 1/2mm) that runs into the main channel(Osage) at the 19mm...this is the roughest water on the lake on weekends..
this is Osage Beach, I would either stay here on the Hwy. Y area, Camdenton is OK too but 13 miles from most of the night life and shopping! Sunrise Beach(or the North side of the lake in general) is cool too....

Unless you stay at Tantara or Four Seasons, the resorts are mainly cottages and cabins...clean but not real fancy..depends on what you want to do...smoother water and family go to the Camdenton Lynn Creek area...Party, then it's definetly Osage Beach...

At LOTO, if you turn left off the road to your accomodations for instance, you will be on the 36mm...if you went right you'd be on the 6mm....the lake curves around if you look on a map... so be sure to check the MM on the lake...and be sure to ask about the docks...a lot of them still have very old docks....

If you stay at a resort in Osage Beach..Kalfran, Robins, are right in the center of everything....Mallard Point on the 7mm is nice but the slips are not cove protected if I remember right....this is a must, I have seen boats coming out of the top of slips the water is so choppy on the channel...it will tear the hell out of your boat....most places are in coves though....

anything else..just ask...before you decide on a place one of us will know something about it...

Wana Go Faster
December 26th, 2003, 02:30 AM
Thanks for the great information missouri it was very helpful in narrowing down the location and eased my mind about navigating the water so I think I'll let my wife decide. If I do think of anything else I will ask if you don't mind.
Thank's again.
