Girlfriend got me a set of drive showers.
She did a ton of research and spoke with Baja directly. She said they were very helpful.
Talk about dedication to fun and sun. She hates "loud obnoxious" things.
She's pretty damn cool.

Guys -
I got a brand new boat for Xmas, sorry guys not a Baja (former member, still very fond of club.) It's a Sonic Prowler w/ all the trimmings (500 EFI, ITS, hydraulic steering, k- planes, custom graphics). Wife even bought me new Sonic docklines (to match purple meteor paint scheme) and new Sonic clothing.
Take delivery of boat (which was just completed) second week in Jan. them right into storage! It's going to be a long winter!
Hope to see some of you members out on either the Chain Of Lakes or Lake Michigan.

Congrats Steve!
Sorry it's not another Baja, but we won't hate you for getting a new boat!:mecry
Are Sonic hulls ventilated, stepped, pad bottom, or what??
I thought they were similar to Baja, but...
Just curious!

I'm a grown man and make a decent living but my Mom still gives me cash on Christmas and my birthday. Of coarse it will be used on one of my winter projects.

Hey TBM......I post with some regret but since you asked.....I sold my 232 Boss end of November and just bought a 2001 32' Sunsation Dominator w/twin 496HO's for Christmas. Pick it up on the 7th of Jan.
Original owner, 130 hours, Mcleod interior, hydraulic steering, k-planes, slept in a heated A/C'ed garage since new. I went and looked at 04's and this boat was cleaner. I thought I was anal until I met the owner.
He had just bought a 36' Motion Cat with triple outboards (100+mph). He's a hardcore poker run guy. Had two boat payments and too many toys....Great guy.
Looked at a 33 outlaw but just couldn't find one as clean as I wanted at the price I wanted......
I love this board and will miss the info. Didn't post as much as I should've but read, I'm sure, as much as anyone.
I'll post some pics when I get some that are posting quality...
Take Care....and happy new year to all.....I'll stay in touch...

Phoenix, I wish I would have known you were looking at these. I could have hooked you up. My dealer was getting out of the Sunsation business and was unloading his stock cheap. He had two brand new 2002 leftover 32's with the HO's. He said he would take mid 80s for them. I think MSRP was something like 140K. My understanding they are gone now, but could have been a great deal for ya.

curt.....thanks for the response......wish I would've talked with you but............This boat had what I wanted......I looked at the original build out sheet and it listed for $142K when he purchased. He built it, ordered it, and think he paid about that. This boat had a lot of upgrades that I didn't list, ie......motor well lights, ac/dc fridge, upgraded guage package, depth finder, mcleod upholstery, freshwater shower, pumpout head and sink, shorepower, dual batteries with switch and built in charger, additional bow hatch, upgraded trailmaster trailer, with aluminum wheels.
I'm also terribly afraid of boats that sit on a showroom floor with people walking on them, getting demo'ed, etc.....(here comes the anal part). I paid low 80's for boat and trailer. (so technically about 78-79K for the boat i guess) Most of the dealers that I talked with weren't including trailer....
Who knows if it's a good deal other than my peace of mind with who I bought it from. I'm into a nice twin for a lot less than 100K and I don't have to eat a bunch of depreciation.
who knows....seems like there's always a better deal.
take care....

Seems like a pretty good deal to me. However, your right, never fails, seems like there is always one better. I always just tell people to shut your ears and enjoy your deal.

agreed........the guys I really love are the ones that tell me how much they screwed the car dealer.....I'm usually on them like white on da rice (especially if i've had a couple of cocktails)....
I've got a buddy that is the finance Veep at a huge toyota dealership here in phoenix.....
He said they teach their guys a lot of sh*T about really acting and adding enough drama that it makes you really feel like you screwed the sales guy.......they're more than just humble.......Then they go in their offices and laugh their ass off.....
He tells me often..........do your research, find the best deal, don't ever trade anything in (deal with cash) and feel good about what you buy......
He's been doing this for about 20 years and still says this to folks he likes......

I used to be a manager at a large Chrysler Dodge dealership here in East Tennessee, and all I can add is that if a dealer ever tells you he is loosing money or not making money he is lying. Plain and simple. I have told my friends who have come to me after a purchase that as long as you purchased at a price that you think is fair, and the item fit your needs and wants then you made a good purchase. If it is not what you need, and it is something you had to settle for, it does not matter what you paid for it because you will never be happy with it. I wish that I could have found more info on price when I bought our boat, but after looking at everything and sitting down and talking with my dealer I could not be happier with the experience, because the overall value of the purchase out shined the price tag.

Pit, I dont think dealers are selling new ones for 80. Bob was just trying to get rid of the last remaining few.

December 31st, 2003, 07:10 PM
Pit.......Your insight is astounding....It's a boat, like any, that comes with depreciation, I was referring to taking the bath you usually take from buying new in a current model year vs used....In the original owners case about $60K
In my case don't know what the depreciation will be but I can guarantee it'll be a buttload less than 60K.....
Boats that sit on dealer lots for one to two years usually end up being demo'ed a lot or just plain trashed and there's probably a reason why they're still there (underpowered, wrong options, crappy graphics, etc).......every one I've looked at was like this .....It's usually why dealers are willing to sell em' at a deep discount.......
I got an 80+ mph boat (that'll probably take any .38 special)loaded w/options......

Hey Tim, thanks for the welcome, I live in Knoxville, and we do most of our boating on Ft. Loudon and Tellico. How about you?

Haulin.....I was in K'ville for about six years...Graduated from Tenn Tech.....Did all my graduate work at UT.....Lived out west about 1/2 a mile from Loudon but my favorite lake was Norris.....I did my checkout dives there.......
I miss Tennessee.............I'm in AZ right now....We really like it but we're far away from family...
The lakes are gorgeous out here.....mostly canyon lakes and many of them....Boating season out here is basically all year.....My new boat has closed loop cooling so I really don't have any excuse to not go:biggrin
Not many Baja's out here though....Too many west coast custom builders.....Hell, I think I'm the only guy that doesn't have boat factory....Seems like somebody's old mold goes on sale and the next thing you know there's a new company......I actually had one guy approach me with a proposal to build a boat out of an old 40' Apache mold......
Lots of great graphics but some questionable quality......I'm still a east coast boater misplaced0]
I just bought sunsation because it was near impossible to find the baja I wanted (33 outlaw).....
anyway......welcome and good to know there's TN boater in here.....

Tim, small world, I myself attended Tenn. Tech. Go Eagles:rocker It sounds as if you also lived near me, I live in Farragut just outside Loudon. Great town and when I left and lived in Colorado I truly missed the river and the hills of Tennessee, I guess thats why I am back. Good luck with your new boat, and if you make it to K-town look me up.

Tim, I actually ended up leaving before I graduated (long story) but I have family in Cookeville and I still follow TTU in sports when I can. MY parents both graduated from Tech so it will always have a special place in my heart. College just was not for me at that time in my life, but I have always learned things the hard way. No regrets, I would never have met my wife had I not left and went to Colorado. I left in '95. I have just been lucky to be successful with out it.

I didn't get any boating related items this year. One thing on the list was a stereo remote control or two..one by the driver's area and one on the transom. Turns out my stereo won't accept one! Well then I need to upgrade my stereo!
So now I'm looking on EBAY for the CLARION model # XMD3-RET Marine CD Player/AM-FM Radio and CD changer controller.
My current stereo is a Clarion M2455 with CD.

hey chris......I'm assuming the radio you're looking at is XM ready (hence, XM in the mod. #)??
I heard a XM ready radio and one that uses a modulator.....there's a difference.....the shop I went to I guess sells more new radios that way....pretty decent way to increase sales actually...
Lemme know.......My new boat isn't XM ready and I'm looking for a winter project....

New stereo head unit, speakers, amp and subwoofer for christmas......at least this way if anyone complains about the enigine noise, I can turn up the stereo......although anyone who complains about a big block roar needs to swim back to the dock.
