I currently have a 232 and was considering upgrading to a bigger boat. I thought about a 302, but I like to travel a lot and don't want the hassle of trailering a 30 ft boat. So, I was thinking of a 272, but I don't really need the extra cabin room, so here's my question...will a 272 ride that much better than a 232 to justify the cost?

to justify the cost?

Well that is a very subjective question! I believe you will definatley notice the differnece between the two. You will most likely be getting about 4' more of running area which will translate into better riding hull thru more chop..........But wether or not it Justify's the cost..........Well thats up to you.

What you should do is go to a dealer and take a test ride. I went from a 240 to a 272 some years back and i was amazed at the difference. But the deadrise was different on those two boats as well. The 240 had a 20 degree and the 272 had a 24 degree.........that alone makes a difference and to add the extra 3 feet.......well, there was no comparison.

We traded a 24 foot Maxum SS454 for a Baja 272 Shooter years ago and Their was a huge difference in the Ride.
Definately worth moving up.:headspin

We moved up from a 21 Cobalt (which had a good ride for a 21" boat) to a 25 Outlaw and I was a little disappointed of the ride down at LOTO. I guess that is what I get for ridding around with 1ASH in his .38 Special for a few years.

I got my arse handed to me in the BTM run, I was in back.....:nono

I went from a 21 islander to the Boss 275, and it was completely different world, the buyers remorse will be there since you are already thinking about it, but once you get out on the water (glass preferably of course) it will wash all your worries away! :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin

Then I'd have to be like you and never take my boat anywhere! That's what I'm trying to avoid!:headspin

Go with the 30 I went from 25 Outlaw to 29. After you tow it and get confident it's no big deal. I pull a 36 Outlaw all over the place. It's all in taking your time.

Im assuming that your refering to towing! Like its been said.....Confidence in towing comes with time. I tow my 34 around with ease. But its not the first thing ive towed either. Take some time towing and you will get used to what is behind you. Its really no big deal. ....... Its just bigger!! :lol

If I had the funds, and the truck to tow it, I'd say get the 302. If not you will like the ride much better on the 275 vs. the 232, especially in rough water. I only wish I was in the position to have to make a choice like that.:lol

Matt
The 20 you have is a grate boat. With a set of headers and lab prop you will have a rocket if it's not one yet. We had one at the Louisville boat show and that thing was sharp.

Oh don't get me wrong, we love our 20. But as you all know, we allways will want something bigger. Our boat is perfect for now but I do see maybe a 25 outlaw in my future. I am waiting to see what the 23 will look like as that may be the perfect boat for us.

Do you ever go to lake Cumberland for the poker run. Joan and I go ever year It's a blast. Cumberland is a big lake and we run Kentucky lake too. Maybe we can get together some time. I have talked to some people about going to LOTO maybe we can get together and go to LOTO this summer and run on their lake it sounds like a real nice place. I think they have some kind of a run at LOTO but not sure.

hp500,
Big Thunder Marine did a Baja Customer Appreciation Day last summer (poker run) and it was a blast. There are a few of us who get together just about every weekend and run around, so anytime you guys want to come up just let us know. I know we have a boat trip planned in August for the windy city of Chicago, other then that come on up...Matt you need to make the trip as well. You guys will have a blast.

Don I would love to make a trip to L.O.T.O. but I'm not sure yet how much time I will be able to take from work this summer, and If I were to come up there I would want to stay and see the sights for a few days. We will see but I'm just not sure at this point.

Ok, now you guys have me thinking about the 302 again. :headspin Here's my next question...how comfortable is it to spend the night in? I have a camper now that I spend the weekend in and the 232 for playing on the water. If I decide to go with a 302 I'll be selling the camper. So, there will be some weekends I'll want to stay on the boat.

It aint no Holiday Inn, but I think you would enjoy the experience. My old 310 Sundancer was about the same length and we loved spending the weekend on it. To me there is nothing like sleeping on the water, my wife and I both truly enjoyed it. If you have kids they will get a kick out of it too. Obviously it will be a little more cramped than a camper, but hey, having your family close is the whole point isn't it? I used to do it for every home football game (UT Vols, Neiland stadium is right on the water) that was part of the fun, go to the game, party, sleep it off, and drive back the next day.
Good luck in your decision. :biggrin

I had a 25' boat I slept on for several years before we purchase our 29 and we never had any problems. Most marinas have power right there at the dock and shower houses, so what more do you need for a weekend. Not to mention the dock parties in the late evening...early morning hours.
