I am in the process of buying a new boat and I was wondering what you guys think is the better boat. The two different boats I am looking at are a 2003 302 w/ twin 496 mags and a 2004 33 outlaw SST w/ twin 496 mag HO's. Both boats are pretty loaded up. I know the 33 will run faster but the price is much higher than the 302 and they wont deal that much because its an 04. Also what do you guys think would be a good deal on that 33 outlaw. It is loaded up pretty well and has the SST package. The guy shot me a price that i thought was kind of high so i was wondering what you think would be a good deal. Any comments would be appreciated.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the 302 was faster. But I am guessing they would be really close on speed.

As far as which boat is better, that is kind of hard. These are two completely different boats. That will be a personal choice. You kind of already know what each have to offer and their differences so I wont go into that.

A loaded '04 33 with HO's should have a MSRP of mid to high 170's. I would think a good price for that boat would be about high 120's to low 130's.

If you are leaning toward the 302, take a look at used. Of all models of Baja's out there, it is my opinion that the 302 has the lowest resale. Thus you can pick one up very reasonable and get a lot of really nice boat for less $$$.

Hey there %%WORD1%t,

What I can tell you as I am sure everyone else on this site knows there is absolutely no comparison between the 302 and the 33...they are as different as night and day....ride, power, "true size", etc. What it comes down to is...

A: What do you want to do with the boat?
B: Where do you do your boating?
C: How much do you want to spend? and
D: How much is too much?

If you're interested I currently I have a 2003 BOSS 302 (used) with only about 20 Hrs. on it, 496 MAGS, Fairing, BOSS 1 graphics, Electric Blue, Orange and Black, and a triple axle aluminum trailer with mag wheels and disk brakes for $108,000 if you are interested. If you are, let me know and I will arrange to get you some pics of the boat, the customer decided after only 3 mo. to move up to and order a BOSS 342.

I can't really discuss new boat pricing (which I know upsets ya'll:beathead , but you must understand who is watching and my position) but I will tell you to expect at least $25,000 difference between a 2004 BOSS 302 with MAG's and a 2004 33 OL SST with HO's

Hope this helps a little?!?!?!?!?!?!?????

...I tried to reply using your user ID but when I keyed it in, it displayed the %%%Word%1 thing????? Sorry about that???

Regarding speed...."On the speedo" I have run a 302 with MAGS vs a 33 OL with HO's....74ish on the 302....79ish on the 33 on the rev limiters running 26's on both (didn't have the GPS with me)...the 33 not only was faster...but spanked the 302 like a family runabout..I dunno, maybe our new team boat (33) has a light lay up or something...just runs like a bat out of HE%%!!

Anyway, dude, if you can get a 2004 33 OL SST with HO's for the $1-teens-120's let me know...even I would be interested in buying it...and I'm a dealer!!!!!!

I was in the market for a 33-Outlaw. Last month, I received a quote for a 2004 (loaded w/496 HO's) from a dealer for less than $120K. Shop it out baby!

Two totally different boats. Different styles everything. I have a 302 and I think its the best of both worlds. I like the walkthrough window and the space of the cockpit. I also enjoy the large swimplatform and the overall style of the Performance series. I don't think youre going to get "spanked" by a heavier 33 with only 100 hp more. I think it would be real close if not the 302 a touch faster. I could be wrong but I've not been beat up by the 33 or the 36 with HO's. I would think that the 33 has a better ride. I take the 302 out in the ocean and some days it would be nice to have some more weight and a little more lenght. The end choice will be your personal preferance being as they are two totally different styles.
Either way they are both Bajas and Mr. Baja can sell you either one. Can't beat that.

Sorry for the late reply guys...I am off of work on Wednesdays and for some reason I cannot log on at home..."It does not recognize my user name and password"??

Anyway....

Regarding the pricing issue.....To put it very vaguely let's just say it is a gentleman's honor in the boat business not to disclose price (new)...for many reasons including different regions and areas and not to mention there are just too many eyes watching this site and they all know who I am and what I do. Take for example the auto industry. They may give you a retail price on their product but if you go and click on the rebates etc. they will make you select a region. The rebates differ between the North, East, South and West...etc..etc..etc...blah, blah, blah.

Regarding the 302 I have for sale. Sorry, no shore power and only a porta potty. I order it that way to keep the cost's down on the 302 (kinda like a 29 OL) or it is almost too close to move up to a 33 or? For just a little more (depending on what you use it for) what would you rather have?

Anyway, have a good day all...

Dave, I understand the pricing issue, I have been in the automobile business for 12 years. The only difference is there is no gentleman's honor in the car business;) Does that 302 have a porrta pottie without a enclosed head? If so where does the factory put it on the 302? I like the 302's without enclosed head and fridge because they have alot more room inside. Has anyone ever really ever used the stove or tried to climb in the enclosed head and shut the door?

Hmm…

As far as the pricing thing, I’m not buying it. It’s just the boat industry’s way of trying to keep the buyer in the dark so they can keep the upper hand. Baja has become the best at it – for example, having to buy from your local dealer in order to qualify for incentives. WTF is that? What do you think would happen if Ford or Chevy began a policy like that? I would have no problem buying a used Baja from either a private party or a dealer but I would NEVER, NEVER again buy another new Baja simply because of the way they try and belittle the buyer with their pricing tactics – and if the Gestapo in Bucyrus is reading this forum, then great. They can't do anything to me.

JMC,

Yes, the 302 does have the porta potty and an enclosed head...it is about the same size as the one in the 33...you can get into it and shut the door....(depending on how tall your are). However there is no fridge in the boat but it does have the counter. I have never seen a 302 without the enclosed head and counter top....I would love to see some pics of one if there is one out there (not the Team Baja Pack).

OUTLAW29,

Man, easy....I am not your enemy!! And I am sorry if you feel that way...If you have read any of my posts than you would know that I am here to help if I can, not get fired NOR jeopardize my career in any way....everyone else understands from what I can gather????

Regarding buying a new one...I bet you would buy another Baja brand new for the right $$$, correct me if I am wrong:evil

Hey MR BAJA,

No way I'm angry at you or most dealers out there. It's Baja that comes up with these crazy policies about "secret pricing" and it sure sounds like you as a dealer have to walk on eggshells for fear of the Bucyrus Gestapo.

As far as getting the right price - I don't know. I understand that in order to get $$ incentives from Baja, I'm not allowed to shop around. I have to buy from my local dealer.

That is a bunch of horse. I bought outside my local dealer and got the rebate. And a couple of other dealers that i was dealing with said i would get the rebate also if i went with them. Most dealers love that policy from baja to use that tactic against you. Cya:biggrin

From what I was told,
the Baja "rebate" is not a rebate that they pay the buyer, but a "credit" that they give the dealer and the dealer comes out of pocket.
So they all can do it, if they can sell you the boat for more $ and give you some back.

jmc2135
February 19th, 2004, 09:21 PM
I guess that makes my 302 unique:biggrin I searched for one without the counter top and enclosed head because I don't sleep on it or leave it in the water and would rather have the room. I installed the porta pottie under the v-berth with a hinged door and installed kemlite in the compartment with a drain.

Joe,
I've seen those pics before and never noticed the no bathroom area.
Did you remove it or did it come that way in '96
My '97 had a shorter couch on the right side and a little portapottie room under the helm.
That pretty neat.

I don't have it listed for sale but I would sell anything for the right price;) I wish I had some more interior photos to post, I spent a lot of time and money last year! It really is the only one I have seen with the giant U shaped seating in the cabin without the enclosed head and the counter top.

I smell spring, I just bought a new platinum momo wheel and I am ordering some new cockpit carpet from rr textiles next week. I also have to get those Corsa pipes on that Pance sold me last year!

Hey if JMB74 is still looking for a good used 2002 33'Outlaw with tons of options on it you might want to look at this boat. It has twin 496 HO's, fridge, pumpout head, a/c and heat, 4 bolsters, shorepower, lab'd props. This boat doesn't have a scratch on it. The guy takes good care of his boat. He is looking to step up to a bigger boat is the only reason why he is selling.

I know this boat very well, see it at least twice a year in Austin at the Ski Dock's Poker Runs.....is cleaner than any I have seen with out a doubt and the couple who own it are super folks as well! My wife loves this 33 and it it also a fresh water boat from Dallas...it really depends on what you are wanting to spend (?)...but a super, super clean and optioned out to the gills....quad bolsters, gps, etc. etc. etc. and you could even drink the oil probably if you wanted to!

Did not know I was so unique...

My 302 has no head or galley. It does have twin 502 mags and full hydraulic steering to the helm. Had the crappy instatrims which are in the process of coming off to put real tabs on and swapping it all out for mechnical indicators.

Like all boats, mine's for sale at the right price!

jmc2135
February 28th, 2004, 11:18 PM
Frank, my 302 has those crappy tabs also. Are you upgrading them yourself? There is no way to get at the inside bottom of the transom on the 302's How will you bolt the new ones on? Do you also need to add dual pumps? Seems like a ton of work!

Shooter

I have a set from a 35 fountain (ground off the logo). You know, I did not look to see if I could get at the bottm. hmmm, lag bolts and 5200 could do it. Now you have me going out to my boat tommorow and uncovering it to look.

Anyway, I'm going to do it 'cause the instatrims suck. I'm adding actuators for the drives too. It will be all mechaical. I really am used to knowing exactly what my undercarrige is doing. I'm fairly decent at rigging things, so this won;t be the first experimental setup. The tabs are 23" long with std cylenders. I'm buying a set of used trim pumps. The who deal should set me back about $1500.00 when done. A new install is close to 4000.00 or maybe more.

I was ready to purchase the eddie marine tabs but after looking in the engine compartment there seems to be no possible way to get to the location where you would need to install a backing plate if you were installing tabs that long. I would think the force would tear them out without a backing plate?

Some day when I remove the motors that will be my first project.
