I am sure some of you guys have factory aircon. My questions are would you order it again, and at the risk of sounding naive will the aircon run off 12 volt or do you need shore power to run it? Also does or is the factory unit have a sea water circuit or is it more like a car aircone system

I run the 'air' always during the day while docked because it gets too hot in cabin below. The unit runs on shore power and does involve running seawater through the system. Most definitely would have this option on any boat over 27'. I don't think you can run this on 12-volt.{drain batteries faster than a fridge}

I run the air as well. It's nice to drop temp and humidity in the cabin in the middle of the day, so you don't have to take the little ones in. You can stay out on the water and keep the party going while they nap and watch TV. I run off a Westerbeke genset, but I have heard that with 3 additional (deep cycle) batteries and an inverter, you can run one on the water for up to 8 hours.

BTW, it does recirculate seawater through a heat exchanger on the A/C unit.

Cheers,
Bruce...
