Dont worry guys I would never get rid of my 302 for another brand of boat. My uncle just called and he is looking at a 2002, 28 foot Sonic. I told him I did not know that much about this brand of boat but I would ask around. Anyways I know we all like Baja but what is you opinion on this brand of boat? Good things or bad things?

Not knocking the Sonic at all, I think the 30OL has a bit of it in the top deck. I do like the 26 Prowler as it again like Baja, seems like alot of roomy space for a 26 footer. Anyone ever see whats inside the cuddy? Its huge with a sink and everything.

Sonics are nice boats but there cockpits are a lot less roomy than a baja cockpit. the 29 o/l has a lot more room than a 31 ss which I have riden in. They have not had any hull warranty claims in like 15 years. Their cabins are very nice though. enclosed heads sinks and thats in their 26 prowler. I too would not buy one I like bajas way too much .

I'll agree with Mr. Baja but they are pig's. Any Baja with the same power will kick it's butt!!! They plain very slow but that is because of the high x-dimension. Once on plain they handle well and just eat any water they are on. They are all made like the 30' Outlaw in a three piece construction bonded together, I think that is were Baja got the idea so they are well built. But again any Baja with the same power will eat a Sonic alive!!!!:music

Sonics are extremely nice well built boats, not a production type boat. They don't build very many and have a very good resale. 26 and up have enclosed head, and a walk around deck

"Sonics are nice boats but there cockpits are a lot less roomy than a baja"
I wish when it came to cockpits the magazines would list some kind of measurement, like from the dash to the back of the rear seat so a guy could get an idea of the size.

I agree that Sonic is a very nice boat, I like them a lot. One of the reasons the cockpit is small is that they make them so you are able to "walk" around it on the deck. I read this in a past issue of Boating Magazine, that had a Go fast shootout that included 4 brands: Fountain, Formula, Sonic, and Donzi I think... There were a few other pluses if I remember correctly and I think Conic might have taken the cake.

The 28 is no longer in production. Too close to the 31. Some 28 twins came with alpha's. Great boats and great people. I visited their production facility in FL. Met Richard Hewitt the president and got a full tour by Fred Grant the Asst. plant manager. Very friendly and nice to talk with. Not many places would give you the amount of time they did just walking off the street.

Sonic are a great boat. Stand up shower head in everything over 26'.
Some say they are heavy and to be more precise, tail heavy. This is somewhat true of older model with twins. They are now constructing the boats different using infusion core technology of some sort.
Anyhow, what it means is they are much stronger, lighter and more balanced than ever before.
The reason as stated above about the smaller cockpit is the width. 8' 6" beam, but I would say at least 8" of that is used for the walking ledge.
We talked with a Sonic Rep is Miami for over an hour.
Two things I didn't like was that they include the swim platform in the LOA measurement. Secondly, engine compartment (lack of space) confinements do not allow a gen until you get up to the 386.

Sonic quite building the 28 for a reason. While I'm a big Sonic fan you may want to shy away from the 28. They really aren't much bigger than the 26. Plus they are tail heavy due to the twin engines. But any 28 with twins will be tail heavy. I'd go for the 26 unless twins are a must then go 31.
