I need some help from the board on a cockpit cover. I priced sunbrella and to be honest with you, the sunbrella that was on the hammer when i bought it...sucked! This cover is made from Aqualon and it is 100% water proof. The guy offers a 5 year warranty and he quoted me $386.00
Does this sound like a good deal?
Thanks in Advance!

I had a full cover made out of aqualon that a friend gave me for my 29 Outlaw that he had for years. It held up good he used it for yard boats so it was outside all it's life and looked good when I sold my boat. I don't know about price but aqualon holds up real good. The only thing bad I can say is with aqualon it does not breathe the boat has a tendency sweat real bad and it did have the vents in it

Well ...first off my sunbrella wouldnt keep water out of the cockpit for nothing. Its probably a good idea to scotch guard it to keep it waterproof...but you still have to do that once a year and i am not interested in that. also, it faded from red to "junk yard red" it looks horrible ontop of the dryrot...i wasnt impressed. Aqualon (they say) is not supposed to fade or shrink ( with time im sure it eventually will though ). I am just looking for something to keep the water/ Sun out of the cockpit.
What did you pay for your Sunbrella? I got a quote for over $500. ouch!

Mine too. I have never had a problem with sunbrella. Mine is four years old. I have both mooring and cockpit covers. I have never scotch guarded mine and water beads off of it like the waxed hood of a shiny new Corvet.

Guys,
I coated my full cover with almost a full gallon of 303 protectant. That's the stuff Sunbrella recommends as the ONLY stuff to use on their s#it. It still dripped any time I had water "pool" on the cover. and the sunpad was always wet through the stitching (or whatever). >:
The Aqualon is coated in a polymer that will NEVER leak and is nearly indestructable. It's tougher than a 2 peckered billy goat. :winkgreen

I just bought and installed a Sharkskin full cover on my .38 and It is Fantastic. light and Manageable , $485 delivered. I thought for the price Id just replace it every couple of years, But I Think it will last forever. However It does not set in the sun, but is in a dock on a lift. and could be exposed to water.
Sunbrella was 1200.00 for the same thing and is 4 times the weight. I hope that the Sharkskin will save the Sunbrella cockpit cover that came with the boat.It is one year old and I don't think that it is as red as it origionally was. :evil

I can't believe some of the prices I'm seeing for covers. There are people out there that do custom covers for a hell of a lot less, in the best materials available. Not only that, I had a buckle system added with nylon webbing. Twenty two tie downs. All custom made, 2 center poles for $675. Can't beat that with a stick... 8)

I just went to my local canvas shop and they quoted me $1250.00 for a sunbrella cockpit cover and $1100.00 for aqualon on a 302. Does this sound crazy? I could buy a full sunbrella cover from coverquest.com for $800.00. I have the old cockpit cover, could I send it out somewhere cheaper or do they need the boat to make a new one?

We had a full mooring cover to include the sides for our 29 for $1000. The guy came out to the house and custom fit it right on the spot. It also has straps with fasteners that can be attached around the trailer for towing.
