Nice boat but I would still opt for a 25 outlaw. I thought it would have run faster than 63.8mph with a 496mag, 4000lbs and a 23 pitch Mirage, I geuss thats about right. What is the pony difference between the 496mag and the next motor up the ladder? The article says the 496mag was rated at 375hp. I could buy a hell of a used boat for $73,348!

One thing that did catch my eye was the fact that the seats look the same as the ones in my 20 Outlaw, but they were drop downs, I would like to replace at least my drivers seat with a drop down.

The next level up is a 496HO at 425HP. I continue to say that the extra 50HP for another $6K doesnt seem like a good deal. BTW if you go over to the MERC website and compare the 496Mag and HO, the motors are identical except for this 50HP.

What would that extra 50hp get you in top speed above the 63.8mph do you think?

By the way TBM members,(and Blake) I would love to get the op to boat with you some day, but as I live (and boat) in northern lake michigan I doubt it will ever happen. Although my father does live in Leavenworth Kansas, I could never tow my boat that far but if somebody was willing to hook up for a day down at LOTO I might be able to swing it! Im only 30 and wont be able to get into a big boat (25+) for a while , but would love to go for a ride in something like that, plus it really helps convince the wife.

The 6k diffrence between the two motors is a retail figure if buying new and are a decent negotiater you should only pay 3k between the two. Still alot for 50hp I just bought a 2004 29ol with twin 496mags did not opt for the HO's wasnt going to pay 6-8k for 3mph its a personal call though. BUT if buying used i would most likely go for for more power especially in a single engine application.:biggrin

Twins,
When buying new, it is not a 3K difference trust me. I inquired...the best I got was $11K for twin 496HO upgrades from the factory. Most will aggree that the HO option is a waste of money. Many will say I am wrong, but everyone I spoke to said they cant justify the extra 50HP per motor. I have to wonder why even Merc did this.

Just going off when i ordered my 2001 272 496ho my cost diffrence between the 496ho and 496 was $3200 more then the 496mag after negotiation. The 29ol was bought from dealer inventory. My friend is the sales manager at a baja dealership and told me this was the case also. But then again I am very good at negotiating a good deal for myself... dosent hurt to have some inside info either.... hehe

WOW!!! $73,000 for a 24 foot boat. I have been looking at some other brands in the 28 foot range with a 500 and will run under $100 grand loaded.

I love my H2X but Baja pricing seems to be a little outrageous.

The 496mag comes with a standard bravo, does the 496mag ho come with the bravo X or is that and additional upgrade?

Twins,
I see your point, but you are also talking about 2001 vs. 2004 and a dealer boat vs. an ordered one, basically there are many variables here. I guess the point I am driving at is that is alot of coin for 50HP.

I agree with you Blake on the cost factor for the extra 50hp as stated in first post on this subject it is a lot to pay for what you get. . I got twin 496mags on my new 29ol but going 75mph is fine by me. But the info from my friend who is the sales manager is current info for 2004, not 2001. I bet I could of saved you some money down in N.C. BTW my friend who is a supervisor at the Mercrusier plant in Stillwater ,OK which is about 50miles form my house said the cost in building a 496mag VS. 496 HO is about $300 at the factory where they build all production engines for merc. So they are sticking it to us for sure.

Hey guys....please tell me that ya'll are not believing the "SUGGESTED RETAIL" mark up the magazines put on allll the boats? You can get a nicely equipped 245 with a MAG on the trailer for the very low $60's....

Regarding the $$$ for 3 MPH or so...here is the old rule of thumb for performance....."$1,000 bucks per mile per hour for singles....$2,000 bucks per mile per hour for twins" ( , -)....

Have a great Easter all....

MR BAJA....02!

Actually if the MSRP is 73K, if you are any type of a negotiator at all, you should be able to close the deal on that boat for about 58K with a trailer included. Depending upon the time of year, inventory, dealer mood, etc, you may even be able to do better than that.

But Mr. Baja is right. At an MSRP of 73K you should be able to buy them all day long in the low 60's without much negotiation at all.

I will probably not get around much this year, 4 month old! I will probably be at Tenkiller 99% of the time. I'll just have to see how it goes. We are going to have our annual "boys only" day at the lake the weekend before memorial day weekend. I think it's the 22nd. Your more than welcome to join. As far as that goes, so is anyone.
