I purchased a 25 Outlaw SST 2004.

1)My depth finder is on the right side next to the steering wheel. When you are driving you need to bend down to read it. Is this right??, I know I have seen previous models and it was under the tab indicators.

2) I have one battery but no battery switch--did Baja forget to install this? I noticed the bilge and the fire system taking power from battery with key out of the ignition. (Battery was dead before I took the boat out today)

Any comments would be appreciated.

Try to answer quick.

The batteries are supposed to be direct draw for the fire and bilge for good reason. You want the pump to be activated whether your on the boat or not as well as the fire suppression system.

I would check and make sure you have no other toggle switches on by accident.

1st Weekend for me was dead as well. Mine was the navigation lights. They have to be dead in the middle, not switched forward or back. Mine was back thinking they were off, but that drew juice for the stern light.

As far as the depth finder, mine is located directly under trim tab indicators.

Good luck, hope this helps out.

Is there room to relocate your depth finder indicator where you can see it while underway? Maybe there is something behind the panel that prevented them from installing it there.

I would think that since other 25s have room for it higher that yours should as well. Possibly whoever installed it didn't realize that the current location was a poor choice.

As for the battery draw, you can buy a single PERKO switch at a marine supply store. My 25 OL didn't come with one either so I started a project which installed a 2nd battery tray, 2 battery PERKO, and the wiring. It's all done. All I have to do is buy the 2nd battery and hook it up. I put the PERKO under the rear bench seat, in the bulkhead between the seat and engine compartment, on the side closest to the batteries.

Rehov,
Sounds like a dealer installed option after the fact. Highly unlikely this is factory.

Good point Blake.

He may want to go go back to the dealer he purchased it from and have them move it ... for free of course.>:

and then what to do with the exposed hole next to the steering column? A stereo remote maybe.

Maybe something cool in the hole like a fuel flow meter.:biggrin BTW, it does not have to be a dealer add on for this to happen. I have seen boats delivered for years straight from the factory. Seems as if the switches, gauges, controls, etc always have something different about them. I think it depends on where the guy doing it that day decides he wants it.LOL I guess that is the difference in a hand built boat and computer automated assembly line like in the auto industry.

Thank you all for your responses----
saleen367--The battery probably went dead b/c we had alot of rain in NY and the bilge must have been working and drained the battery. There was a little amount of water in the engine compartment and the mechanic "tasted" it and determined it was rainwater.
I'm sure I read in the brochure that the 25 Outlaw SST comes with a battery switch standard, I talked to the dealer and will have an additional battery installed with a switch. Of course I'll have to "pay" but the price seems fair.

GottaHaveIt----
As far as the depth finder I have not seen another 25 Outlaw with a depthfinder located where mine is, it makes no sense, I just hate to start moving and re-installing electronics. I don't know what could have changed behind the panel that they would have to put it where it is.

Blake--- That is what I thought at first, but the dealer states that all options on my boat were from the factory. I will look into it again this week. The problem is it's so annoying especially since the waters I'm in--fluctuate so much with the tide going in and out. A few feet on the wrong side of a marker and your done, and sometimes there is no marker.

CKmansell- I'm glad you have seen modifications over the years it makes me feel better that it may have come from the factory this way :) , however for me I wish they would have been consistent.

By the way the other option I believe is missing was the mercathode system, I have seen this before and it's supposed to come with it. This week I'll just make a punch list of missing items, I'm working with a good dealer so I doubt I'll have any problems. Once again thanks for all you responses.

This is a 2004 boat guys, I dont think they just pick and choose locations of the depth finder, trim tab indicator, halon fire alert. I have always seen them in the same locations, quite a few years back, I would have to agree.

Wouldnt the battery switch only be included if it was a dual battery system?

The Mercathode is located on the engine iteself? correct? You would have to dig and know what to look for, yes? What makes you think your engine doesnt have it?

My questions for the evening.

"Wouldnt the battery switch only be included if it was a dual battery system?"

I just pulled the 2004 Full throttle lineup and checked the specs again, it states --"s" (standard) Battery tray w/on / off switch. I'm going to check the Baja website right now.

As far as the mercathode, I asked two mechanics and they couldn't find it. I know I have seen it before, I think it looks like a small square box with some wires attached to it and it's usually mounted in the engine compartment. It's also listed as a standard feature.

Dual batteries with a switch are included in the SST package. At least they used to be.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the newer ones.
