I love the chain, i have a place on the long channel right bye grass lake road. We will have to get together some time and party at the sandbar or the dragboat races. I cant wait for the nice days to get here! Its killing me having a new boat just sit in the garage.

My absolute favorite place to boat is up Ft. Loudon to Neyland Stadium, on Saturday in the fall there will be a couple hundred boats all rafted up for the football games. It's one giant tailgate party, and all you need to attend is a boat. They call it the Vol Navy, and the docks are about 50 yards from the stadium. Most fun I have ever had at a game. Here is kind of a bad picture, but it gives you the idea. www.tnriver.com/TnRiver/647VolNavy.htm (http://www.tnriver.com/TnRiver/647VolNavy.htm)

LOTO is our home lake and I guess our favorite, since we have not traveled to many others. We are taking a trip to Chicago in August with the boat, so we'll see if that changes our opinion any.

Jay & Dave,
I'm on the chain to (right off Fox lake in Antioch) and we all are definitely going to have to hook up this summer, between the sandbar, Captain's Quarters, Famous Freddies and of course, The Island, which by the way, their website says opening weekend is the Friday the 30th, (new years party) and the first and second. Here's the site: Blarney Island (http://www.blarneyisland.com/)
Now dont get me wrong, there is no place like home and i love the chain (just not the guy that controls the water level) but there is also no place like LOTO. My friends and i are going down for the Wilbus poker in June, we should get together and have a Chain Invasion down there. :biggrin

We have meetings on the first wed of each month and also do numerous runs throughout the season. If you might be interested in the club www.nioffshore.com (http://www.nioffshore.com)check out their website.

95% of our boating is on Raystown Lake (Huntingdon, PA). The remainder is spent between the Potomac River (south of Washington, DC) and usually one week on Kentucky Lake (Houston Co up to Piney Campground) when we travel down to TN.
7 more days til I get the boat out of winter storage :dancinbanana

Bryan275, my wife and I are going to Put-in-Bay in the middle of July for a week. This is our first time vacationing there. Do you have any recommendations on things to see and do? Any areas that we should stay away from while boating? Any information would be appreciated.

Robert,
Get a marine map! Erie is shallow by Great Lakes standards. There are many rock "reefs" and sandbars lurking just below the surface. Luckily, most are well marked with buoys, and the map we bought for $20 showed all of them.
There is so much to do up there it's incredible! We went to Cedar Point by boat one day, went to a winery in Canada, island hopped and hit a bar on each, you can make a day of it and go to Cleveland Flats for nightlife, there is just too much to list. Stay on Put-in-Bay island itself. The Islander Inn has the best pool party we went to. The entire atmosphere is kinda like Spring Break, Marti Gras, and Girls-Gone-Wild all wrapped into one for adults! (Most young kids don't have boats thank god!) The island celebrates the holidays all summer and we were surprised to see Christmas celebrated in July! It's too much fun!

Great Party Lake - Okoboji
I've been on the lake a dozen time and it's only three hours from Omaha, but the locals don't seem to wave and be friendly like around our parts? Do you take a group or do you feel diffrent about the lake?

hey Eddie!
The locals arent nice? Well come find us! We often tie up or anchor just off of Gull Point...a small party cove if you will...it is common to see some toppless ladies on a busy Saturday :) Last year the Fourth of July weekend was a blast! Seriously, come party with us! We are going Memorial day Weekend with the assumption the weather isn't shitty. Bring the beer and snacks...!!! We also get a kick out of the Bare Foot Bar at Parks Marina ( uh....they don't sell Baja...damn) anyway it is a fun place to drink and hang out. The majority of the people there are probably weekend warriers since property value there is sky high...lots of people trailer there...they are the rude ones! just kidding...I trailer too. We are there nearly every other weekend....

Lake Raystown is our home lake. Hopefully this year we get out to others. We would like to hit Smith Mountain in Roanoke and maybe the Chesapeake Bay. We'll see. We want to get our 9 month old used to the rough water early. :party

Thanks for the information Bryan! We did go out and buy a chart book that had lake Erie and Lake St. Clair in it. I was very surprised on how shallow Lake Erie is. We are not planning on staying over night on the island. We have a cabin and boat slip rented for the week, starting July 10th, in the Sandusky area. If you or anyone else has any more information please pass it on at rjkendall@chartermi.net. Thanks again!

We spend most of our time at the Atlantic Ocean at Swansboro, NC at Bogue Inlet. Great sandy beach about 200 yards from the ocean. Any other Baja folks in our area?

Gerry, we will have to be on the look out for each other this summer. Besides doing a lot of boating at Higgins (80% of the time) and Torch, we do spend time at the Saginaw river. My parents keep their sailboat at Bay City Yacht Club near the mouth of the river. Right now we are planning on spending the forth of July there, it is hard to beat the fireworks show that Bay City puts on.

A bunch of us river rats for here on the upper Mississippi keep talking about making a weekend trip to Okoboji. We just never seem to get around to it. Like someone else said, there is no plave like home. We just have it to good on the old Mississippi. We are way to spoiled I guess.
mikeandkim,
You ever journey over here to the Misssissippi river?

portage chain of lakes in pinkney, michigan.
we have a chain of 8 lakes. every lake has a sandbar before and after which are most always loaded with great folks kicking back partying.
the first party spot is baseline lake sandbar. ALWAYS hot. people setup volleyball nets and everything. whats even cooler is this year the riverside pizza parlor built a new docking area with a take-out booth AND bought a new "toon" to make food deliveries to the "baseline bar" as we call it.is a good lake to really put the hammer down as there are no shallows to worry about.
ya pretty much need 2-3 coolers to make it through the day up and down the chain.
here's the link to the huron river chain website with aerial photos of the chain. ZUKEY is just as crappy as it looks, but we only hit that lake to get to the zukey lake tavern:spineyes
strawberry lake has got to be my favorite. when ya click that lake, you'll see an island in there..that's where i'll be soon as the weather gets hot. for some reason, there aren't alot of people hanging out there,so i just call it "mine"
huronriver.pinckneymich.net/lakeimages/ (http://huronriver.pinckneymich.net/lakeimages/)
if ANYONE comes up my way,LET ME KNOW as i have guest passes to launch your boat. you have to have a max of 48" deadrise though in order to make it under the 1st bridge.
after that you should be cool.
