View Full Version : So I asked the Ebay seller a question...

So I was reading this guys ad and it says this 2002 Baja 25 OL, with 496 HO, will do 75-76 MPH. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-Baja-Outlaw-25-SST-496-Mag-H-O-Loaded-Out-240hrs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c0cc092cbQQitemZ120473031371QQptZPowerQ5fMotorboats

So I ask him a question....

Dear giger80,

Are you sure the speed is 75-76? I have seen and been in many of these with a 496HO and only saw, maybe 66.

- waynep769

His response was...

Dear waynep769,

No I decided to come up with some # out of the top of my head! Man I had a 21' Hammer that would do 68.9. It runs mid 70's, If you are interested bid, if not, find someone else to bother.

- giger80

I didn't think I was bothering anyone just asked a question. Was I out of line?

Wayne, maybe he saw mid 70's on the wish o' meter, or maybe he means behind his truck. :onhishead Seems like a nice guy, I wonder if he is a member on TBM.

I looked for his boat for sale on here with nothing so not sure if he is a member or not. Ask the question, cause if we dont someone will think they are getting a mid seventies boat which it's not. We have exchanged a few other emails and he says the speed is due to the lower elevation in Louisiana.

2. what prop are you running?

We'll see what he has to say. We have exchanged a few more emails with the same story and him asking me why he would lie about something like that. I just am wondering why he would say it will do 75-76?? Is it really his boat? The price does seem to be in the ball park though but it is a great price for a 75 MPH 25 OL.

There might be some merit to this... but I wouldn't think so on an EFI engine. For example, this summer while visiting Table Rock lake my carbed boat picked up 200 rpm and about 2 mph... same load and fuel level as always... the only reason I can come up with it there must have been an elevation difference.

Ok, I'll give him 2-3MPH for elevation change (My boating is done at roughly 500 FT above sea level)......so, my 425 HP 25 OL can get 64 MPH in ideal conditions and give him the 2-3MPH for 500 Ft (which is alot I believe) so that is 66-67 MPH.....a far cry from the advertised 75-76 with a stock 25 OL with a 425 HP HO.

Don't take this wrong Wayne cause you had a legit question, but the guy is probably sick of dealing with people and the idiot questions. I hate selling things just because of the idiots out there. I just went through it with the whipple. I don't have to sell it just moving into a different style of boating and sold off the 95 and am parting out the project. Well after 38 watchers and about 500+ emails of BS not one taker. So it will sit on a self and rot at this point along with all the other stuff. So again I don't think it was so much an attack but more of frustration. Or he could just be an A$$

While I do not think it will run 75-76, unless he is talking about the speedometer, which a lot of average boaters do, not junkies like us. LOL...

I do think your boat seems a tad slow. I am just basing this off of what 275's will do and what the 25's would do with the old 502/415hp.

I have seen a solid 71-72 on many stock 25's with the old 502/415hp many many times. One would think the new HO with 425hp would do at least that.

And yes, I am talking about the factory liquid filled speedo. (which are usually pretty darn accurate by the way)

I wish it were faster, I am going to look for an Extension Box and -2" Shorty in the off season along with labbed prop to help out. I was thinking when I bought it, it would be a solid 66 MPH boat but seems to only be a solid 63 MPH boat in it's current setup.

That is what I was trying to get at without insulting you. I think yours should be a tad faster. If you do plugs, also do wires and cap as well. It can really make a difference. If it doesn't take a look at the RPM's, is it doing ok there?

Why is it a big deal you ask...its because 76 MPH is about 10 MPH more then I would say any 25 Outlaw will run in stock form. A potential buyer that has little knowledge about Baja and 25 Outlaw will be extremely pissed when they find out the true speed of the boat. It's false information and ethically wrong just to sell your boat.

Let me ask you this, will you take the boat back with full money refund when the buyer finds out the boat will only run 66-67 MPH?? I highly doubt it.

I have extensive knowledge with the 25 Outlaw and the 496 engine. My mag will run only 200 RPM less then your HO and with it perfectly proped for speed I can only get 65 MPH GPS with it.
I call TOTAL B.S. with what you say in regards to speed of your boat..period.

I also just noticed that you have it in forward gear while fully trimmed up. Do you have any idea how much strain you are placing on the shift cable?? I see a shift cable replacement in the near future..

It would also make me question what else you lied about...:noidea:

You didnt want to run my 1989 antique baja for PINKS...how bout running another 25 Outlaw for pinks then? You make the pick and whoever the lucky winner is will run their boat against your boat...winner takes both boats. We just need a week before the race so that i can do a custom "motor" tune on which one you pick out so that we can keep up with you. It will be a "carburator" motor against a MPI motor. This is your chance to shine here...dont blow it.

Read the article , it does not say it is on gps, it say per boat speedometer. As far as the money back guarantee, you said you were not interested in purchasing, so what the hell does it matter to you?

Well, along with the stretched shift cable, sounds like you need a speedometer because it is misreading high about 10 MPH!!!.

So I guess you lied again because you said the boat is PERFECT in the add. Hell, I haven't even seen the boat in person and I already found 3 things wrong with it. I'm betting if we hooked up a scan tool to the computer, we'll find something else.

Someone who is interested in your boat at some point will find this forum and probably find this thread and I hope they do because I hate to see someone get screwed. That's why it matters to me.

Speedometer may be off, I know it hit 76mph, so I tell you what, instead of being a straight up a$$hole, why don't you take into consideration it may be possible, I never said it did that on gps.:thefinger Well, along with the stretched shift cable, sounds like you need a speedometer because it is misreading high about 10 MPH!!!.

Damn guys is it winter already. So the guy has "marked up his add" We all know that boat wont do 76 in stock form. We all know that 99% of the folks place their add that the boat is perfect(there not). SO BFD I have seen an artilce that states my specific boat will do triple digits. I didnt harrass the author of the article and tell him he was nuts. This is the shit that I dislike about this and other sites. I know if I dont like it dont read it. Take this any way you want. EBAY has become what everyone didnt want it to become. That in fact is capitalism at its best. Everyone has a buddy that is bid rigging now on high dollar items. I have had others on this site ask me to do it for them. Enough from me. Lets move on. Looks like you guys all got Blake some cash bad mouthing this guy too:24: :24: Hell now the seller will want more money for the friggin boat.

I normally don't get involved but this just rubbed me the wrong way. The one who buys it on WOOOWOOO word about 76MPH will be disappointed, ask him for an explanation and WOOOWOOO will avoid him like the plague. The buyer will join this site looking for answers and around the circle we go.

That is what I was trying to get at without insulting you. I think yours should be a tad faster. If you do plugs, also do wires and cap as well. It can really make a difference. If it doesn't take a look at the RPM's, is it doing ok there?

Crap, I missed a little on here.

I want it to be a tad faster.....I am certain the previous has never changed the plugs, wires or cap. It still has to be all original, so that is going on 6 year old stuff. As far as props, I run a 24P Bravo 1.....62 @ 4600 RPM and a 23P Mirage +...64 @ 5000RPM. There doesnt seem to be any hesitation or missing either.

I remember he ran out of gas that day in the 25, i towed him in, thats when he hit that mph. So if were getting technical he is not lying. :headbang2. Speaking off woo woo i hit one of those green coast guard markers at damn near 90. I have a nasty green streak on my boat now. I need willis in action. A few points in the thread im not understanding. Boats in louisiana dont have pink slips. Hell if there legit louisiana boats they dont even have titles. So you would have to race for registrations. :noidea: 2nd hell i remember the dream o meter in my 20 outlaw with the 496 would like peg out then it just broke. :applse: So if your dash says it why the hell cant you list it that way. Its a grey area not a lie.

I can honestly tell you thats a bad idea. As a pure neutral party. Ive heard stories and am still considering some of your 540's for my 50 hustler. Ive just seen him in this scnario before. Not to mention he is so dirty that he almost flipped my viper and hit a tree to get ahead of someone on I-20. Just so he doesnt have to shift from 2-3 he is fast. Ive seen seats curbside at the track, he studied under todd henderson. If ricky bobby was real it would be woo woo. :rolleye00

Anybody in there right mind would look the boat over well and test drive it before buying it - everybody knows what there boat will do for speed so why is everyone worried about it. Nobody is interested in that boat on here anyway - if they were - they would ask if anyone knows any information about the boat. I have to agree with some previous comments - everyone thinks there boat or car or what ever they own is immaculate condition - Take a good look at it before you buy it. Pictures will do wonders. By the way - why is everyone worried about a few miles per hour - If you want the miles per hour - Buy a boat that will run 100 miles per hour - Oh by the way - on a good day you might see that. Give the guy a break for trying to sell something on ebay.

Oh and by the way Wayne - your looking for 2 - 3 Mph on your boat - why don't you just spend the money and buy one of shooters motor so that you will know you will get it. Alot of money can be invested in extension boxes and props for 2 - 3 mph.

I wish I could, believe me I wish I could.....I'm not quite sure the lady friend with quite approve of the $15K investment although I really want it!! The $5-6K ext box/shorty and $3K CMI's are in the deck this year. I am holding out till I get back from next deployment to add the Raylar when the engine has closer to 300-400 hours on it than now.

Didn't want to come off the wrong way on the initial post.

Hmmmmmm.....

Let's just say $hooter would build you a bullet for $15k; subtract $6k for the box/shorty and $3k for the CMI's and you're at $6k. Surely you could sell your old motor for that and break even. Your only out of pocket expense would be the steering so you'd be out what....maybe 3 grand? Bottom line is you'd SAVE $5-6k by doing it this way, PLUS the cost of the Raylar upgrade (another $7k) so the net result would be $13k in the bank. How could you afford NOT to???? :headbang2

If I were spending your money that's what I'd do, or at least that's the logic I'd use on the wife. :24:

I would have to agree - wait too spend a little more money up front and sell what you pulled out of the boat to get some money back in the end. You can spend alot of money trying to improve your boat speed and will not always be happy.
