I'm sure many of you have seen this 40 on ebay.
It is way out of my price range at this time, however I am curious about a 40 with 525's. What kind of speed can you get with these? Is it enough engine for the boat?
I am a fan of twins becase tripple's seem like one more engine to maybe have problems with.
Boat looks sharp though. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/w...2458181096 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=26432&item=2458181096)

Neil,
Your talking to the wrong guy about money. I live comfortably and enjoy spending my money, but by no means am I rich, or liquid for that matter.

I dont really think about it, I am getting a measly 30OL with Twin 454 Mags. I do think it might be a bit underpowered, this boat should be setup with triples.

40 OL...twin 575's and ITS drives...75-77 MAX in "perfect conditions".....
40 OL...twin 525's and stock drives....I would "guess" 71-74?
Baja's old Poker Run boat with 575's was running about this speed..... I also have a customer right now looking at a 40 with twin 575's....was told to expect the above speeds as well?
P.S. ??? Does anyone know what perfect water conditions are??? 3'+++ (LOL)

Thanks for the info MR. Baja,
Thats not as bad as I thought for the 525's, however I would have guessed that the speed differences between the 525's and the 575's would have been larger.
What is the money difference between the two for a couple miles per hour?

Hey gang,
Neil,
I know what you mean, you would think that 575's over 525's would be a major difference but keep in mind you are only talking a difference of 50 HP per engine (100 total)...not very significant in a 9100# boat plus (with twins). The "retail" difference roughly "ballpark" is between $27 and 33K upgrade....
Bob,
Wouldn't the 25 be killer with a 525 ("""IF""" you can hang onto it). The problem is that there is just "so much" motor you can put into a boat before you run out of hull...no matter how much more you put into it you will gain very little if anything at all. To upgrade from the base 496 MAG (non HO) to the 525 "retail" ballpark is roughly an additional $38-45K (before adding hydraulic steering or K-Planes!!!! Now as for speed...you "may" see probably low to at verrrrry most mid 80's ....unfortunately you just run out of hull.
Kind of a pretty penny or GRAND to spend on some blue paint and Headers if you ask me???? and good luck on the re-sale! But they are built like a BRICK S#*! HOUSE!!!
Anyway, have a good one all, I'm about to go to Clear Lake for "Demo Days"...it's only in the 40's here with a North wind at about 15-20 ..."plenty of water in Clear Lake"...maybe 2'...ouch!
later,
MR BAJA

i own the baja brochure boat and it gps at 80.1 with simpson cabin and light layup. currently tweaking the boat, we feel comfortable the boat is going to break 85mph gps. if i end up going with zigouras on their 900 hp upgrade the boat will be 105+. the 525 boat if it has full cabin is a 72mph boat. full cabin 575 boat is 76.
