We are currently looking at a 1999 25 outlaw listed in boat trader on line. 454MagMPIEzCode Parsing Error:=adcache.boattraderonline....31872.htm[ (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/7/2/64431872.htm[)
The seller stated the hull was blueprinted by Baja in 1999 to remove the hook. He said this was an option available in 1999. Also said the Bravo one was upgraded to the Bravo one performance drive. (Better internal parts) Is anyone aware of these options..?? The seller has provided numerous pics, the outlaw only has 160 hrs on it and always garage kept(climate controlled). Is anyone familiar with this outlaw. He is from Kansas, but boated in Oklahoma mostly. Is there anything to watch for on a 1999 outlaw..??
Blake...I have looked at the pics of yours several times...but just can't do the 310hp...:(

I have heard of blue printing a hull, it is similar to blue printing an engine in that all you do is take out all the imperfections from the factory. On a hull, it is measured and smoothed then re-gel coated as to make is 100% smooth and straight. I have never heard of a manufacture offering that as an option (would not speak very highly of them to charge you more for something that should be done in the first place). It sounds to me his hull developed a hook and had to be repaired under warranty. As far as a performance Bravo, the only one I know of is the X-drive. The only drive option in the Baja archives for that model year is an extension box. The only drive offered was the basic Bravo-1. It looks like a decent boat, but I would be leery of who did the hull work and what their reputation is. Taking a hook out of a boat is no easy job, and I would want to know exactly the circumstances that surrounded the process.

haulinvols...

Thanks for your reply...I am told the Blue Printing was a factory option...$800.00 bottom prep package...I understood this work was done by Baja...

Is that hp number correct?:huh

I thought a 454 MPI puts out 310hp (Blake's) and 496 Mag HO is 425hp.

If it's a typo then the error is in the hp listing. The engine is definitely a 454.

STAINLESS MARINE EXHAUST, MSD IGNITION, K&N FILTER, ARIZONA SPEED AND MARINE COMPUTER,COMP ROLLER TIP ROCKER ARMS, ADJUSTABLE FUEL REGULATOR454 Mag mpi is 385 hp...but this add's about 10% or more to it....so I've read...

Does anyone know??

P.S. my drives are the original from Baja

All the performance drive adds is low water pickup on the 99 models. I had the performance drive on my 99, before I had to replace mine this past summer. I replaced it with a Bravo One X drive. Now that I have added the supercharger I'm glad I spent the extra bucks for the X drive.

Jeff is correct about the Bravo 1 Performance drive. And the low water pickup can be a pain in the a$$ if you hit bottom. They pick up a lot of crap.

I can see that he changed the valve covers (necessary because of the roller rockers he installed). You want to make sure he kept the breather line and PCV line hooked up after he swapped the valve covers. If not, the motor will not idle properly and the excess crankcase pressure will cause oil to leak through the valve cover gaskets.

The hook removal "option" sounds strange to me. These boats do have a slight hook designed into the hull for stability, and the hook can be removed, but I've never heard of Baja doing it as a factory option.

Thank you for all the replies...

I could not find the thread...but I know I read on here some where about people having the hook removed from thier boats. Missouri...I do believe your HP estimate is correct...the seller estimated the motor at 425 hp. When he talked about the "performance drive" he mentioned it had the dual pick-ups with heavier duty internal parts..??. . I have read on here the potential for problems with the lower pick-up on the nose. He also had the intake sent to CP performance and had extrude honing done on it to improve airflow. His next step was a pro or whipple charger until the boat show when he ordered a new 299V profile with a "Blue" 525 motor. I looked at alot of outlaws over the winter. We all know Mint or excellent condition has a different meaning to some people. This outlaw has been in a climate controlled garage since new and truely is in excellent condition. I got it for 43K...The seller has been excellent to deal with...He is even letting me keep it in his garage till all the snow and salt is off the roads...and I can get it back up here to Michigan...

Blue printed hull as an option ! no way. guys yankn your chain on that one. If its a bravo X it will have 2 sets of water pickups, upper and lower. and should also have a bix X sticker on the bearing cap.

There were no Bravo X's that year. It is a Bravo 1 Performance drive. The only difference is that it has the low water pickup. The internal parts are EXACTLY the same as the standard Bravo. Baja stopped using the Performance drive because they pick up so much junk.

Actually, you guys are all partially right. The "Performance" drive is the same internal parts with low water pickups. This was a good idea in theory because it kept more water to the sea pump in rough conditions. Merc soon figured you that if you get into low water you can shut the flow completely off and damage sea pumps, causing over heating problems. They later added back the old pick up's onto the lower casing so the "Performance" now had dual pickups. This is not to be confused with the X drive which also have dual pickups but is a new generation.

My old 502 carb baja 272 shooter had 390 HP stock from baja and I think that the 502 FI was 410 HP. But Curt may be able to shead more light on the HP.

454Mag is 385hp and the 502mag is 415hp.

Ok...looks like the performance option on the bravo drive in 1999 only added the dual water pickup. Regarding the hull, I spoke to the seller today, he dug out his original invoice...it clearly states...Bottom Prep Package - $ 600.00...which removes the hook and sharpens the edge. This is on the Baja Dealer invoice (03/18/99) and the work was done prior to it arriving for delivery at the dealer. Obviously this had to be an option in 1999 and the factory had to do the work....Now people I am not trying to stir things up on here...just trying to educate myself. There is obviously some VERY knowledgable Baja owners on here and what better place to ask questions...

ok i know we have been thru this already on another thread.
ok so i think there a 2 types off "hooks" the ones put there intentionally by baja and ones from... lets say bad mold/transom. so which is it?

ChevyThunder1

My understanding is...This was an option to remove the hook puposely put in by Baja. This option removed the hook and sharpened the edge on the stern. This option was not offered after 1999 because Baja could not perform the work properly. I am not looking to beat this to death...But as many of us, I look to the used boat market when upgrading and this seems to be an option not many people were aware of, or cared to do to there boats. I know I read a thread on here some time ago about people having the hook removed themselves...But I have not had any luck with the search function...If one were to have an imperfection in the mold removed...That would be warranty work I would think...Not a $ 600.00 option.

Here is one of the threads on hook removal. (http://pub47.ezboard.com/fteambajamarinefrm27.showMessage?topicID=195.topic) I am still looking for another one I remember.

EDIT

Ahhhh.. found it. Read this one first on hook removal. (http://pub47.ezboard.com/fteambajamarinefrm27.showMessage?topicID=186.topic) Then go back and read the one above.

I order this boat that you are talking about, when we sat down with the dealer to order this boat, one of the options was bottom prep package cost $600 i have the paper work to prove it. BAJA also on this boat did the wind deflector in white for me this at the time said they could not do but with a liitle talking they went ahead and did it.
