Why side exhaust???

I notices in the thread on Hawkeye they showed a picture of the old APBA 40 Outlaw with triple 800's and the center engine had the exhaust going out the sides. Now the new Factory 40' Outlaw with triples are going out the back. Why would you want the exhaust out the side???

Maintenance and space in the engine compartment. It's just a lot easier than cramming 6 pipes out the back.

In a single-engine boat, it sounds like $hit unless you're directly behind the boat, because you're only hearing the exhaust note from one bank of cylinders. It sounds more like a tractor than a V8. But once both banks are blowing in harmony . . . sweeeeeeeeeeet !!!!!!!!!!
