I need some help. I decided that I would trade my explorer in about a month ago for a nicer car that doesn't suck up more gas. I made up my mind once I was assigned a slip in Chicago's harbors. The dealership said that they would pick it up anytime I need them too. Here is my problem. I already paid for the hotel down in LOTO. I have all my friends going and no one has a truck to tow with. The ones that do are already towing something else. I knew this might be a problem when i traded it in but I figured that I would find something to rent by now. I need a pickup with a cab or SUV since I will have 3 other guys with me. I will be towing my 275. Does anyone have a recommendations???

This will be a hard find, I was going to trailer my 25OL back from Michigan when I bought it but wound up with the same dilemma. Liabilty and Insurance is the main problem and the only renatls I have seen with hitches are Uhauls and Ryders, and these will look stupid and will be expensive.

Tow packages are standard equipment on Tahoe's and Suburbans now. I would think that if you rented one from Hertz, Avis, Budget, etc.... it would be a brand new model and would have it. Just an idea.

I use Hertz frequently for business and there SUV's do have tow hitches. The Lincoln, Explorer, and Expedition have them. I would try calling them to see if you can request one. I have a feeling that they will not guarantee it because of liability issues but it is worth a try.

I just rented a truck to pull the 24 Outlaw to LOTO for rack storage for the summer. There is a Budget rental truck place here in STL that rents F-250 (with drawbar and ball) for $45/day plus mileage. Both times I have gotten a new truck (last time only had 5 miles on it). Unlike other places, when you rent they know you will be towing and set the trucks up accordingly (several types of trailer wiring connectors, trans temp guage, etc). You might might to call around to Budget offices in your area.

I noticed that Home Depot rents F350s and F450s. Not sure what type of hook up they have, but it might be worth checking out.
