I have decided to finally go into a twin engine boat. I have been looking around and found a 29 outlaw with 7.4L MPI twins for a good price. What would I expect out of these engines as far as top speeds??

My 29 with 454 310s ran 65 to 66 with a set of props that I had repitched to 25 and K&N air-filters other than that the motors was stock

I would stay away from the 7.4's. They are hard to re-sell. I had one in my H2X and had a hard time selling it. Everyone wants the mag or 502 for those years.

However, my motor was solid and never had any problems. Not alot of mods can be done to them.

But to quote Bob Teague.

DM: In one sentence, what one piece of advice would you give a new power boater?

BT: Don’t play with your engines and props, and just enjoy your stock boat!

So if you are happy with the speeds then the 7.4 will be o.k.

I have 7.4's and I get 63 MPH loaded with people and gear.

No gear, people and a very light load of fuel 68 MPH. The man that owned it before me said I would see 72 MPH, but I think he was drinking his bath water or Coors light.:biggrin

Dont know about GPS. But every twin 7.4 29 OL I have had a chance to drive will just bump 70-71 on the speedo.

Its amazing how many people want the 29 Outlaw now that Baja has eliminated it from their regular production lineup.
The people that I know that have the 29 O.. love them.
It is my understanding that If you want a brand new one that Big Thunder Marine Bob Morgan Is still able to get you one.

Your right Pit, Everybody that owns one loves them. You can buy a 04' single 29' Outlaw in the mid $80's. That is a lot of boat at a great price. Compare that to a new 30 price tag. Yes you are getting little bigger and faster boat. But, compare the numbers when you right the check. But I do have twins so I am preaching the choir.:lol

My 29 does between 70-72. It has twin 7.4LX MPI's rated at 330hp each. It turns 25P mirage plus props @ 4600 rpm WOT.

My dealer here in Cicero NY consistently blows 29 outlaw sst's out the door w/ 496 Mags for $82995.00
