Can anyone give me some solid feedback on which of the above to invest in? She would be used primarily in freshwater with considerable chop as well as occasional off shore salt water use to the Cape, BI, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as H2X owners on the lake tell me one thing and vise versa as to the Outlaw owners.
thanks,
Rich

In the water conditions you describe, Outlaw for sure, and I have an H2x!
OL...4600 lbs...24 degree deadrise hull...true 25' boat(not including swim platform)...
H2X...3900 lbs...21 degree deadrise...true 23' boat...

I may be biased since I have one, but I agree with the above statements. Additionally, the 25 Outlaw has more freeboard, meaning you sit higher up out of the water. Pretty important if you operate in rough waters!

As a former H2X owner and a current 275 owner, in those conditions I wouldn't even consider the H2X if you can swing the Outlaw.

25 Outlaw all the way. Much smoother ride in chop.

I can't tell you much about the h2x. But I am on my 4th Outlaw. It's going to be hard to beat the ride of a 24 degree V bottom. If your dealers got one of each take them out for a test ride and see what you think. I myself will never own any thing but a Outlaw.

I owned a '99 H2X and had it in all water conditions; lakes, ocean and rivers. You will get a much better ride in the outlaw. I sold mine to go bigger. If you are looking for an all around boat for skiing, wakeboarding etc. the H2X would be the way to go.

Will I notice a significant difference in the 3 degrees? I found a great deal on a mint '02 H2x (I think anyway- asking $34,000 18 hours, absolutely mint- any feedback would help out.) As a first time potential Baja owner, I don't think I can get into an Outlaw just yet. Should I hold off on purchasing until an Outlaw is in my future? Is the H2X that bad in the chop?

Buy and start having fun!!!!
H2X is not a bad boat, it is money friendly compared to the Outlaw.
But I only know one person with an H2X and I have never ridden in it.:tiphat

I would like to add on to this a little. I have a best friend that is about ready to buy a new baja. The choice is between the 25 OL and the 275. It will be used in KY Lake. Which choice would you make and why?

H2X vs 25 Outlaw.........gotta go with the outlaw!
AND yes you will notice (majorly) the difference between 3 degrees.
Now the 25 Outlaw and the 275 that is much more closely compiared. They both have about the same bottom length due to the 275's molded platform and they both have 24 degree bottoms. I think it would be more of a design issue than ride issue. The 275 has a winshield vs wind deflector. I have read (On TBM) that people say that the outlaw is faster but im not positive on that. Baja has the 275 listed as 4400lbs and the Outlaw as 4750lbs so i dont imagine that with the same power that one would be much faster than the next.....BUT.... Im sure if sombody knows they will let me know!

I guess I should reiterate, that I'm having a tough time finding an Outlaw in my price range. Would you guys recommend holding off on getting into a Baja until I can do so, or run the H2X? I don't want to waste money and have problems down the line selling a boat that doesn't seem worthy of the Baja name, as well as not having a nice riding boat.

H2X is a great boat and for that kind of price you won't have any problems...it handles rough water (LOTO) fine, just not as well as a Outlaw would in the conditions you described...you won't be dissappointed though.....;)

You will get a better ride in the outlaw but like I said I owned one. I orginally purchased living in Dallas,TX and loved it. Moved to Chicago and listened to the wrong people the first year. They said it was to small for Lake Michigan so I put it on a smaller lake. Got fed up with the lakes I was on went to lake Michigan and couldn't have loved it more. I basically wasted a good season of boating on the Chain-o-Laked when I should have been on LM. Had it in 4-5 footers and felt safe. Granted I could not go very fast but made it home no problem.
Moved to Florida and took it out in the open ocean and it handled great. Had to pic my days but in the bay and key biscayne it was a great boat.
Now I live in New York and the Hudson River and water Taxi traffic made the days limited. Just too rough for a 24 foot boat. I have friends with 25 Outlaws that do not go to certain parts of the River because of how rough it is. I am probably going up to a 28ft Active Thunder or a 31SS Sonic.
If it is a great deal you will love the boat but I would go with the 454mag or 496 mag. I had the 7.4L and wished I had more power.

I have a 99' H2X and boat primarily in the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. You can "learn" how to read the waters and handle the rough stuff (3-5 foot swells w/1-2ft wind waves) My best so far has been hitting 58 mph for over a 10 minute period, then backing off to re-time the waves again. Rule of thumb is, the bigger, the better for rough stuff but believe me, the H2X can handle the rough stuff too!!! Trying to keep the drive in the water is another thing:D

Have owned both....
Had a 98' H2X last season 454/MAG/MPI...Great boat, My wife and I both loved it, has great lines and received alot of compliments on it...True 70 mph boat....But the 21 deg hull has it's limitations when heading out on Lake Huron.
This year we moved up to a 25 Outlaw....And of course have a new Luv...If you can afford an Outlaw it truely is the right choice. And yes that 3 degrees DOES make a HUGE difference...The stand up bolsters are nice...where the H2X you have to sit down....also the H2X is a bit windy at speed.
That 02 you are looking at...what motor..?? $ 34,000 sounds like a 310 hp 454....I would never buy without the 454MAG or 502 simply for resale reasons. Also make sure it has trim tabs....they are great in the rough stuff. I have seen H2X's for sale without trim tabs....
Either way both boats are Great....You will not be disappointed....Good luck in your decision process....You can not go wrong with a BAJA.....

Get what you can afford, The H2X does well in 3-4 footers. I run in the Gulf of Mexico year round. You will probably upgrade later anyway just like most do. I have owned my H2X for over a year now, love the boat. The H2X is a great boat to learn on, and is great for water sports. Join the family!

The '02 H2x is literally mint, and she's running a 350 mag w/o tabs and only has 18 hours on her. I am going to be running her in no more than 2-3 foot chop (I apologize, if I made it out to be more) on a daily basis, with the occasional offshore trips to Block Island, and the Cape. I'm thinking this might be a great intro for me into the Baja family, but am concerned I might have problems unloading when I'm ready to upgrade. The boat is literally meticulous and the owner is selling it due to skin cancer (or so he says) and is only asking $34K. Does this sound like a good lake boat w/ 3 or 4 offshore trips added in a year?

I like them both but like Missouri said the H2X works good @ the LOTO. The H2X is great all around performance boat

I've owned 'em both. The Outlaw will ride a little better, and is solid, but the H2X is a fine lake boat
However, if it has a 5.7, I would stay away from it, even if nearly new. It would be awful hard to sell. Just ask Blake, and his had the small 7.4.
Don't go any lower than a 7.4 mag in either boat. You will be glad you have the extra power.
Hell, I don't think I've ever seen an H2X with just a 5.7.

OK, I've said this before and I know most here will disagree but here it goes again....I have had 13 232's, 5 w/ mags and 8 w/ 454 300-310 hp....2 H2X's both w/ 454 mpi's (310 hp)....
At LOTO(or the St.louis area), 50%, probly closer to 75%, of the ppl. who look at and bought these boats had to be told there was a difference in 454's, even the 1's who bought a couple of the mags wanted to know why they were higher and several opted for the cheaper price w/ less hp.....to most buyers a 454 is a 454 is a 454 on these smaller lighter used boats....they don't care if the boats nice.
When you move up to the OL it's another ballgame, but you won't get hurt if it's a 320 hp 6.2 in a H2X...it's cheaper because of it but still a good buy IMO.
I've got a buyer on my 99 for 29,500 w/ 310 hp 190 hrs. if I want to sell it now...if it was closer and you didn't take it, I would buy it for that price and make money on it. An H2X is the easiest boat there is to sell because they are priced right!
Jump in brother! You won't regret it. ;)
