WE ARE LOOKING TO MOVE INTO AN OPEN BOW. I HAVE BEEN IN A 208 AND IT IS A NICE BOAT HOWEVER IT'S A LITTLE WIDE.
I'M COMMING FROM A BOAT THAT IS CLOSE TO AN 80 MPH ROCKET AND NEED TO BE AT LEAST IN THE 70'S FOR THE NEW RIDE.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 208 AND THE 212? THE 202 IS OUT DUE TO THE ENGINE HP LIMITATIONS. I WOULD CONSIDER A 232 BUT ???

ANY IDEAS?!?

I think if you could find a 212 with a 496ho in it you would be pleased. I drove one a couple of months ago and it ran very well, could not gps it but it seemed to be doing high 60's if not bumping of 70 or so.

I've got my eye on a 2001 212 Islander with a 350 in it. I've never owner a small block but if the thing is a MAG with a Bravo drive I'd think very seriously about picking it up and adding a procharger.
That should be fuel efficient and have a nice top end when called upon.

Does anyone know the specific differences between the 208 and the 212?
I know the 212 has a cockpit liner vs wood floor but other than that?????
They made both models for a couple years, why?

I'm one of those owners of a 212 Islander with a 496MagHO (bought new in July of last year).

I think that with a 350 you'll be ok with the boat, but not perhaps blown away. It should perhaps get close to 60 on the speedo but that might be it. For small water the 212 Islander is quite a nice ride and will not dissapoint.
Any direct question I'd be happy to reply.

P.s. The Mag HO is good for approx 75MPH GPS. Havn't really tried the 2 gallon of gas white knuckle wave topper ride yet though :)

I would think you could find a 212 Islander with a 7.4L in it somewhere..... shoot, for the right price I'd sell you ours.... :thatsfunny Our boats in the mid to upper 60s on the dreamOmeter.....

I have a 212 with a 7.4L 310HP and Bravo1.

It has been GPS'd at 69mph. Of course that is smooth water, not very full tank, etc.

I was thinking about doing things to boost it, but given the conditions I normally run in it does not make sense. My lake is quite bumpy (bulkheaded all around and lots of traffic) and most of the time I can't realistically run WOT. At least if I want to keep my g/f (and I do!).

I am already looking to a bigger Islander for more space and better rough water handling. Plus I really like the deeper cockpits with drop downs.

But don't take this wrong, the 212 is a great boat. I am often running with 2 adults and 5 kids and it handles us great.

Look forward to hearing what you decide and how it turns out.

Jeff,

I am running the same. Have been thinking about getting it lab'd. You thinking about a change?

I wouldn't mind a few more mph but I hate to be without this prop for ANY ammt of time..... the way the seasons going right now I'll be winterizing the boat before Labor Day... :(

Yep, I must say my season is just a wee bit longer than yours!

I have another one so I might do the switch and go for it. If I do I will post the results.
