View Full Version : Summer Trailer or Slip?

I just purchased a 2003 25-Outlaw. I was ready to park it in a slip out on eastern Long Island (NY). However, my dealer stated that would require bottom painting. This in turn would significantly devalue the boat, and affect the performance.
If I choose to "high and dry" the boat (the marina places it in the water and removes it when I am done on a daily basis), the cost is very high!!!
Anyone have recommendations? I will be using it in salt water 100% of the time. What do you guys do?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the board!
Hope you have a great summer with your new 25OL!!!
First off, your right about the saltwater slipping...Do NOT under any circumstances slip the boat in salt for extended periods of time, and never, ever bottom paint a Baja! 8)
Paint if for cruisers!...:D
Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what the costs are up your way for Dry Stack storage, but it is definately the way to go. That's what I use down here and it is incredibly convenient.
Option two is trailering...

Henry,
I am located in FREEPORT, and I indoor rack store my boat all year! I would not have it any other way. I think the price is reasonable compared to other parts of the country and for lesser services. I pay $80 a foot per year. Dont you dare paint the bottom of that OUTLAw. Another option is a HYDROHOIST in a slip. I personally would be more concerned about what to do in the winter for storage.

HGJC.
Like the others have said...no....no.....no....to both the paint idea and the letting the boat set in water. I have another option...I use an Airdock and love it. I have had mine for four years now and would do it again. I liked it so much I became a dealer for them. I am not trying to sell you anything, but I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. The cost would be less than any option you have been told so far.
My e-mail is srpbaer@yahoo.com, should you have questions.
Good Luck

I dont boat in salt water but here is what I do I rent a slip and inside storage so my boat sits on the trailer during the week in a barn at the marina and on the weekend it sits in my slip. It costs me about 1400 for the summer but well worth it since I dont have to clean the scum off the bottom of the boat. As far as bottom paint NO WAY my last baja I bought used came with hull painted you have to paint it every year it looks disqusting and you loose about 7 mph. Hope this helps, and good luck with the new 25 outlaw.

I'm a 100% trailer guy for right now. Last summer I rented an outside storage (parking spot basically) for my Outlaw and used the ramp on location when wanting to use it. I figure I save some money doing it this way vs. having a slip. Plus the marina gas was always about $.40/gallon higher. (I don't know how you twin engine guys can feed your boats) I do take my boat to a few different places to boat so for me it works out well. I tried a slip for a week but it actually took me longer to get underway than it did by trailer (still covered the boat, carry coolers etc to the dock, lower and raise the lift) I think any bigger of a boat and the slip would prove more beneficial though. I probably shouldn't mention this as I will probably get harrassed but I pull mine with a V8 Explorer.:o It handles better then you may expect and it supports my wifes SUV habit. ;)
