just bought a white 2003 chevy avalanche loaded with leather and onstar. i have owned a lot of trucks in my days but i must say this is the best one that i have owned yet. it rides like it is on air. It has everthing possible to order and i have already installed the baja vinyl in the back window, man does it look sharp. Blake i will have to send you a picture. Was excited and just wanted to let all my baja friends know. happy boating.

Mike,
Congrats and good luck on the AVALANCHE (Sweet ride!), I know the vehicle well as I am a huge CHEVY fan, As you know from my other post, our family of cars looks like this...

1981 Chevy Corvette
2002 Chevy Blazer ZR2
2003 Chevy Tracker LT
My next vehicle looks like the 2004 or 2005 Chevy EQUINOX or a 2003 TRAILBLAZER.

BE PROUD AND OWN AMERICAN or APPLY FOR JAPANESE UNEMPLOYMENT!

Mike,
I, too, just bought a white Avalanche last week. I had been waiting for them to be made without all the plastic, so I got mine with the "WBH" no-side hardware package, and loaded with everything except DVD screen. Great time to buy, with the $3000 rebate I bought it for $8600 off MSRP! In my deal, I also added Westin stainless steel tube steps, factory flares (like Tahoe's have), paintable, molded mudflaps, and had my flaps, bedcover/toolboxes, and fairing all painted white to match the truck. Looks bitchin'!! Just like an Escalade, but without the ugly Caddy grille, and $15k less!:smokin

Hope to see you at the Winni poker run.:|

It is hard to maintain the old "Buy American" when most major foreign makers build the cars here. BMW builds here. Mercedes and Chrysler are one company. GM owns Volvo and Saab. If I'm not mistaken, even the Japanese build 'em here! Isn't Honda in marysville Ohio? I read recently that over half of the foreign nameplates are actually made here.

Nevertheless, I bought the Suburban right after 9/11. I was ready, and the deal was good. Yet it was assembled in . . . Mexico! We have an old Saturn and a 96 Lincoln Town. So I feel that I can editorialize with a clean concience on the topic.

You make an interesting point DCH. I wonder how many US boat manufacturers sell their product abroad, and vice versa? I can't think of a single "import" high performance boat, but there are probably some. Hmmm... :rolleyes

I KNOW that many US boats are sold overseas.

Where are Hallett boats made? I thought at least one HiPerf boat came from Australia.

I'd like to have one, but it's gotta be a 3/4 ton 2500 4x4 with the 8.1 or better yet a Duramax diesel. Too bad GM doesn't offer the diesel in the Suburban/Yukon XL/Avalanche!! :rolleyes

I have an uncle that bought one last year. He really loves it. A member of our local club bought the Cadillac version that he pulls his 25 Outlaw with.

As for buying "AMERICAN", it is very important.

They (Germans, Japanese) may build them here in the states, but the profits go back to their countries. It is too bad that the US allows so many loopholes where they don't have to pay the same US taxes that the true American companies do.

You not see no foreign cars in my driveway!

I sell to a lot of Japanese owned companies, and most of the upper management and engineers are from Japan. They usually cycle through every two years on average.

Only the hourly workers are American, or Mexican now days. The real profits leave the US.

My most recent new vehicle (sold it a few months ago) was a 2001 GMC Yukon XL (Suburban) 3/4 ton 8.1 4x4. It was well built and I really loved the truck but not as much as it loved gas...12 MPG wasn't gonna cut it with gas prices climbing towards $2/gallon so I sold it.

Anyway, it was made in Mexico! I didn't know that when I bought it (wouldn't have made a difference anyway). But you just never know now days! Nissan, BMW, Mercedes..made in the USA...GMC in Mexico? Dodge too! :o
