We just got a 2002 25 Outlaw SST. The boat is white with yellow, black, and red SST graphics. It has the 496 Mag HO (425) with 24 pitch 4 blade. We put it in the water for the test drive and it came out of the hole great. After we plained and got up to 3200 rpm it shut off but did not die it went to idle and we tried it again and the same thing happened. I thought that it was a fuel problem the dealer said the they just reprogammed the computer and that they must have not done it right. I really don't know what it is but it is still under warranty. We just did not get to bring it home and the weather was great today. We get to pick it up Monday or when ever it is fixed. We have great luck. At least I got to see the nascar race today and Ward finished 8th.

You'll love the 25, great boat. The HO is the way to go, good HP, reasonable $$.

Why had they reprogrammed the chip? I'd question them on it. Sounds like you might have been bumping the rev. limiter?

Best of luck and enjoy!

Congratulations, sucks that that's how it started out for you but congratulations.
I was told that mercury had come to Big Thunder to reprogram some ECUs a few weeks ago, I think they had said that they were running too rich.
I don't know if it's "apples to apples" but I have the HOs also and 5200 rpms is what I get with a 29p.

Have fun.

They are reprogramming due to the engines running too rich.
Mine was just done. If you are seeing soot on the transom you are a likely candidate. Our marina (Channel) did a bunch with them this week.

Sorry it took so long to reply. It was not the ECU but they did reprogram it any way and put it back to the way it was. It was that when the filled it up with gas they filled it to full. It caused it to vapor lock where it had been setting on the lot. I have never heard of that. They took a 5 gallon fishing tank and hooked it up to the boat and it ran great. They only thing was it ran for few minutes and it sucked that tank dry.
We have been on the lake today and we love it. It is a big step from a 99 Hammer 7.4 MPI to a 25 Outlaw 496 HO. I hope that we have all of the bugs worked out.

Welcome to the 25 club! The boat is an awesome machine.
Handles some pretty snotty water with ease!

As for the stalling problem, they'll figure it out. Mine has over 140 hours and never once has it stalled or failed to start on the first try, cold or heat soaked. Guess I'm lucky! :p

Get some images posted when you get it wet!! 8)

I just wanted to say that I am from Glasgow, Kentucky. We go to Lake Cumberland and our house boat is on Barren River Lake. Plan on going to the lake this weekend and I will try to have pictures posted monday. We are not at the speed that we want yet. With a full tank of gas and 3 people we hit 65 on GPS. I have not burned off all the gas to see what she will really do. All that has been done is a 24 pitch 4 Blade prop and a K&N air filter and drive shower. And I know that is not going to give us any more speed. But she really takes off out of the hole even better that our Hammer that we had before. We have plans to to increase the horse power but not until this winter. Don't think that we could go a weekend with out her now!
