View Full Version : Complete windscreen for a 302

Irish Tomato

I'm looking for the factory windscreen for a 302 if anyone knows where there's one at or has one let me know. I want to take the windshield off my boat. I'm not looking to sell the windshield in the deal though.

pulled from Google:

I'm not really sure exactly what the windscreen material is. If you wish to call the company that makes our windscreens they should be able to help you with your repair. The company name is Spartech Marine located in Rockledge, FL. They can be reached at 321-636-7562.
Please let us know if you need any further information.

Ask baja 1st, but I was looking for one for a 232 and was told the 272 windscreen will fit the 302....that is what I was told but I never verified it...

Chris I called Spartech they said they've destroyed the molds already, but I will call Baja and see what they say. I'm really surprised Baja would get rid of a part for a boat they quit making 2 yrs ago.

Originally posted by missouri: Ask baja 1st, but I was looking for one for a 232 and was told the 272 windscreen will fit the 302....that is what I was told but I never verified it...

Dan I'll check with Baja and my local dealer as well. I appreciate you letting me know a 272 will possibly fit a 302. I'm wondering if a 342 will fit as well?

Well I called the dealer today and they said they HIGHLY doubt that they still can get the windscreen for a 302 so they are looking into one for a 342 see if its the same. I believe that area of the boat is so I'm hoping.

Question Dave.

How come you do not want to get rid of the windshield - for resale?

I would think if you gave it up, you can post a thread on a whole miraid of boating sights for a trade.

As much as you want the wind, somebody out there with a 302 wants a windbreak.

Just a thought.

I just spent a few minutes hunting. This is going to be tough Dave.

2 places in Austrailia and New Zealand make windscreens, even custom. The problem is, they prob don't have Baja molds, and custom from Austrailia is going to be expensive.

I know you monitor Ebay, no nibbles or anything?

Nope I found a place that makes them but they want the boat or the windshield to use a as a mold and they are located in Cali. So that isn't feasible either. I'm going to call Baja again on Monday and see if I can get anywhere regarding the 342 windscreen. :noidea:

Do this:

Tell me where in Cali.

Confirm if a 272 windshield will work on your 302 (I thought you said it might)

If it is local, and mine will work, they can use mine as a mold.

Or you can make a paper mache mold, sawcut it, and ship it to me or them directly.

Keep me posted.

Good idea!!! I'll get with them and see if they are in the L.A area. I'd greatly appreciate it thats for sure. I honestly think the 272,302,342 are all pretty much the same in that aspect its the lengths of the cockpit area is where they change. I guess I could take a measurement from a solid point we both have on our boats and that would tell us. I know there's the point where the windshield has the roll and there's a piece of aluminum seperating the 2 pieces of glass right there. If that would be a good constant then we could do that.

Bill I'm not very good at making molds or cutouts never really have been. Which is one of the reasons I never got into fabrication. I love doing stuff like that, but just don't have the artistic ability to make molds and forms. I just can't believe the company(Spartech)would trash the molds for a boat 2 yrs out of production. What would Baja do if they needed to warranty a boat that got a windscreen? I guess after a year though that part of the warranty is over so they are covered.

Chris I'll call that company on Monday and see where they are and if that would work. If so I might be able to make this happen yet. Hmmm maybe a windscreen is in your future too? :onhishead

Chris missed this post. I don't want to sell the windscreen for resale value when I go to sell the boat. Question would you have bought my 272 had it had a windscreen on it? When I talked to Hawkeye they HIGHLY recommended I didn't remove the windshield for resale purposes. The people that would buy a 302 would be windshield buyers sorta how I was when I bought the boat. I now REALLY like the looks of the windscreen on a 302 and have gotten away from that windshield mentality. So to answer your question I would just wrap the windshield up and when I went to sell the boat offer someone the option of me putting the windshield back on it or keeping the windscreen and then selling either or or selling them either or. Make sense?

keep me posted. I will help anyway I can.

And if we are talking a few hundred bucks I would consider a windscreen, but you and both know that wouldn't even cover the shipping. Not there yet for me. I will say it is getting old having to look through an aluminum bar when I sit in the bolster, I just don't tend to sit much, so not a major issue.

When I am at the boat next, I will count the screws, and measure the screw holes across the beam at the windshield end, I will even try to get a circumfrence measurment od the windshield if I can. You do the same when you are in town and we will se if they come up the same.

Yea I do have the Outlaw fever, but I still like the creature comforts of my 302, so I figure I can have both worlds this way. Plus the look of the 302 with a windscreen is sweet looking. I found a picture of the 302 with a tube swim platform and it looks sweet as well now I just need to find someone that can make it for me. :headbang2

Sounds like a plan Chris...Yea I agree that its going to be a little more than a few hundred, but hey if we find someone that will custom make it and they're the same you just never know. :noidea: I'm just ready to ditch the windshield and go with the wind in my face and the sleek offshore look.

The ppl. I talked to said the 302 fits 272....all the foreign wind screen makers needed the boat or mold and prices were crazy so it wasnt a option....
This was 4 years ago when I needed a 232 screen and I cant remember who told me...I was thinking about a 302 w/ a windscreen for personal use, but when I looked at them at dealers i didnt think there was any way the 272 fit the 302....the 342 looked close to me, but I found one used so I didnt pursue it any further....
there was a thread on one of the boating forum about the tube platform for the 302, there is a place who has them and your right they look a lot better.....I would take a 302 w/ a screen and tube swim platform over the OL any day....

Dan I saw those pics I'm going to go with tube platform and windscreen. I just need to get the windscreen. The tube plateform will just be a matter of getting a fabricator to tig weld it for me. I'm hoping the 342 windscreen is the same if it is I'm good cause they're still making that boat.

Can they do mold injection? this windscreen wraps around the front. then has 2 sides to it. Seperated by 2 aluminum connectors.

Well talked with Baja direct and according to them the 302 windscreen has been discontinued and the 342 windscreen will not fit the 302. So I guess I'm back to having someone custom make me one. Anyone know anybody that would attempt this? I'd like it to look factory the only problem I can see is the front piece is rounded up as well as down and then the 2 corner brackets that tie all 3 pieces together.

Dan really don't want to give up my windshield is the problem. When I go to sell it I'd like to still have it that way I could give someone the option either or, or both for a little extra $$. I'd like to keep it in wraps for later. I know prolly one of those stupid ideas, but sorta the way I think. I always liked the windshield til the Outlaw bug bit me. Now I'd like the screen. Keep your eye open for me. Down there at the Ozarks someone might have one sitting around. :ecomcity:

I'm checking a couple options and contractors we do a lot of work with. The most expensive part is the mold(s). Do you need acryllic or are there other materials that would be sufficent.

I would prefer the white acryllic. I'm not sure if it was acryllic or lexan but whatever the factory one is would be what I would prefer. The other problem is the corner brackets. If you have a email address I can email you some pictures of what the factory one looks like they are very close up pictures. Thanks for you help...

Matt thanks for verifying this. I wasn't sure. I was definately hoping Baja would be able to get me somewhere with this, but if someone else can make it and has the ability to do so with molds then I'm all for it. Once they have the molds they could build them for others cause I'm darn sure there's others that want the windscreen as well.

Dave shoot the pictures to this address y_schmidt@earthlink.net. (please not too large - I'm in no man's land with aa slow connection). If they were Spartech they are an acryllic, and I did talk to the guy that does custom acryllic work for us, and he thinks it can be done, he just needs some frame of reference before he says for sure. The next question would be is there one to make a mold from? If there is there is a huge labor savings, if not it's just more eng. & manpower to create molds.

I had asked about other materials for the reason there are some other process out there to do this, and you would never no the difference. If you want you can give me a call later today and I can fill you in. 704.293.6808

Your S.O.L all you can hope for is if you have enough of it someone can make another mold for you to replace it. This is the main reason I don't want to sell my windshield because they will no longer be available in a few years either. From what I understand any boat that Baja no longer makes within 1 yr most parts made from a outside source are no longer available. I know the windscreen for the 272 is no longer available and the 275 won't fit it. They need stricter limitations on parts like they do in the automotive industry.

Irish Tomato
June 30th, 2007, 05:56 PM
I'm still looking for a windscreen for a 302 I contacted Baja direct and when they quit making the 302 they had the mold for the windscreen destroyed along with the mold for the boat. WTF what happens when someone needs parts? So if anyone knows where I can find one let me know. I'm seeking out aftermarket people to make me one, but I need a pattern to go by. I have found out the 342 nor the 272 is the same. Its in a league of its own. So even if someone has one they'd let me use to make the mold that would GREATLY be appreciated..

I've found a company that will make the acrylic pieces needed for any windscreen, BUT I need one for a mold pattern. Does anyone know someone that has a 302 with a windscreen on it that might be generous enough to let me use it to make a mold? I know this is asking alot of someone, but think of it this way...what are they/you going to do if yours/theirs gets broke? At least I've paid the cost for the mold to be made. Thanks

For the tune of about 3000.00 you can get the front section made. The side pieces are simple cause they are flat. The front requires a mold...
