I had an older (1993) one a few years back and I loved it. It was a great boat that handled the water very well. I was coming from a 240 sport and the ride quality difference was huge. (im in the ocean alot)
As far as the 2000's, I'm not sure. I do remember hearing about a gelcoat issue around that time but that would effect the whole product line not just 272's.
It was a great boat and I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to anyone. I just changed my style and wound up doing more fishing and mackerel fishing on a 272 is not a pretty site:lol

Nothing wrong with 'em...In fact, they're awesome boats.
You see many for sale bacause they happen to be one of the most popular models in the lineup. Lots of good deals out there!

I love mine. One comment I have however. My 272 is procharged and around 75 + mph it tends to chine walk. Not a good feeling! My buddy Dave's (Dave's 25' outlaw) tends to ride slightly better in rough water. I think the Outlaws perhaps have "deeper v's"?
This would be my only negative comment. I don't know if this will help, but I am looking at have external steering put on mine over the winter.

Steve, Regarding the differences you're experiencing between the 272 and 25OL, it's probably the weight difference. They both have 24* vees, the 25OL weighs 4750# and the 272 is 4400#...They are basically the same length as well. Actually the 25OL is like 2 inches longer if you count the bolt-on swim platform as you would the molded-in platform on the 272.

Steve,

Would adding a bit of negative trim (tabs) help that or was it just something you could not adjust out of. Definitely get the hydraulic steering. Makes a big difference in handling/safety. Was 75+ max on the procharger setup or did the chine walk prevent you from testing full throttle.
